have a black roof on my 05 mini and I am trying to make it perfect. Had a bird poo bake into the clear in an afternoon. I used scratch x and it did a good job of getting rid of most of the stain. I went after some other small scratches on the roof and was happy with the results. Followed it with show car glaze and nxt paste wax. Looked fantastic. However a week later after rain storms I see all kinds of new scratches and marring . Do I need to keep waxing to cover that up? Or what should I try to get rid of these?

I think that you may have used the "filling" ability of ScratchX. When you applied the product did you work it in really well, or did you apply it and let it dry like the instructions?

If you just applied it and let it dry like the instructions you probably just filled up the defect.

here's a thread that might help you out
How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

basically you want to work ScratchX in really well in different directions with what Mike likes to call "passion behind the pad". Try 3-5 applictions, wiping off the product before it has time to dry.

Good luck, and post lots of pics of your shiney car when your done

Thanks for the link. I will try again working it in longer. Perhaps I got the abrading without the polishing. It's shiny and turns heads but I want it perfect. I don't have a DA yet and the roof is mostly glass . What does everyone use for non abrasive cleaner? Paintwork cleanser.

a extremely light duty paint cleaner is Meguiars Deep Crystal Step 1. I supposedly has dimishing abrasives in it, but i have yet to find someone that has actually removed swirls with it.

Oh ya, i forgot before to MOL!

yes i used this once. then realized that sneek. skipped right up to 83 and 80. much better.

but yes, use a lil old PASSION as they say for the scratch x. it'll work beautifully if done right.

            goodluck.

let's see pics of your MINI too.

is it an S? any MODS?

              Re: scratchx scratched

What did you use to apply it with? If it was other than a foam or mf applicator pad then THAT could be the cause for the marring.

                Sneek,

I have successfully removed minor swirls with two well worked coats of Step 1. Three weeks later and I had swirls again. This time, I was prepped up with a PC and 83 and 80. No more swirls.

I marred the heck out of the hood on my black Hemi using ScratchX. I too used a terry covered foam pad and a lot of elbow grease. It took about three applications of #80 and a pc to get rid of the marring. I'll never use ScratchX on a large area, nor will I apply it with any fabric covered pad.

The stuff works great on small areas when it is applied with a foam pad. It was never intended to be used on large areas. There are many products that work better for this kind of polishing.

the terry cloth covered pad might be the culprit, I used 83 and it removed the swirls, might want to use 80

mini44, I purchased mine for a "steal" from eshine .

You will want to pick up the backing plate and buffing pads from an auto body shop supply store. I purchase most of my Meguiar's stuff from MAX Auto supply.

Though, I see no problems with using ScratchX and a Terry applicator, I have been using scratch X for years and have even applied it with a terry towel. The PC is a lethal combination though, and my PC and Meguiar's products are holding up better than my friend's RB/3M pads and products 100 fold.
