  • Color X Question

This may sound funny, but I've noticed in a few threads that I have read recently that some of you are using Color-X on newer car finishes. I thought this was for mainly neglected or faded finishes. Am I wrong? Or can you use it on newer cars and what kind of a difference would you get?
    Thanks

    Re: Color X Question

ColorX is good as a one step product: it works as a paint cleaner, polish, and protectant. It doesn't do quite as good of a job as using an individual paint cleaner, polish, and protectant would (at least as far as I know), but it works great when you don't have much time. You can definately use it on newer cars, and many people do since it comes in handy when you don't have time to use an actual paint cleaner, polish, and protectant. PLus it is easier than using all of those products. The kind of difference you will get? It will make your paint look awesome (IMO).

ColorX can also be used to revitalize faded or neglected paint.

    Hope this answered your question.

        Re: Color X Question

Since I think the ColorX popularity is my fault, I'll chime in as well..

It is a great product. It fits kind of weird into the strength of cleaners, since it is more abrasive than DC#1, but not as much as ScratchX. So it is kind of hard to judge which is better, DC#1 or ColorX. But a separate polis hand wax step will generally leave better results than an all-in-one product. That is why ColorX is often topped with a regular wax.

The regular Cleaner/Wax is a fairly mild cleaner, so since many of us that like ColorX on newer cars use it on daily drivers to save time, I think it is nice to have a bit stronger of a cleaner.

The other important thing with ColorX is that is it as strong of a cleaner as you make it. If you apply it gently, it will clean gently. If you apply it with a lot of passion, it will remove milder swirls, old oxidation, etc.

            Re: Color X Question

WOW, I get to chime in with my first real world experience. Earlier today I used Color X. After a good wash I applied Color X. It was pretty easy on and off. It left my paint clean, smooth, slick, and very shiny. And this was on my brand new car (2007 Caliber) But then it gets better. I then topped with NXT. I can't believe how good my car looks now. I can't help to not stare and run my fingers across the slick feeling paint. My neighbors must think I'm some kinda car pervert. LOL I'm very proud of the work I have done. And I'm extremely impressed with these two products.

                  Re: Color X Question

A brand new car may look clean, but there's always room for improvement! My car looks twice as good (or more!) than when I drove it off the lot a few months back. Especially the "gloss" factor....it didn't have the 'wet' look back then that it does now. I'm a ColorX/GC fan and work by hand. I've also used #7 polish once.

I used ColorX/GC on my mom's white Grand Am, (after claying...it's a 1994), and she said it was so bright in the sunlight it hurt her eyes to look at!!

                      Re: Color X Question

I have found that ColoRx gives my car the smoothest feel of any of the Meguiars waxes that I've tried (#20, #21, #26, NXT). I topped ColoRx w/ NXT on my Jeep GC last November and it was still beading up when I did the Spring detail this past Easter! That's 6 months of harsh winter weather/driving (I live in northern VT), you can't ask for much more than that.

I used ColorX + #21 in June and am still beading, but the feel is getting a bit rough now.

                          this got me thinkign now.

what the method of application with COlor-X?

i might wanna give this a try.

                          wash
                          clay
                          colourx
                          nxt

                          so that's it.

Hi-Tec Foam Applicator, work it until it turns from greenish to clear greasy if you want the most cleaning ability. You can wipe it on more gently if not.
