hey guys i have a question for you. my buddy has a 1990 mustang with original paint on it. last week it was hit on the drivers side rear quarter panel and the bumper.
the insurance company approved the repairs for those pieces but the rest of his car will have the same 16 year old paint. he just got married so he doesnt have the money to do a full repaint.
the tops are faded horribly. i tried fixing them and they looked good (2 passes of M 80 and a coat of NXT) but within 2 weeks they were back to the original condition.
Now my question is there something that i can do to help the new paint blend with the original paint. im not expecting perfect results but at least something to help it out and make it look like the paint is all the same.

The problem is that the clear coat paint on the horizontal surfaces has deteriorated to the point of no return, this is why the results you achieved with the M80 and the NXT didn't last, it's not a topical problem, the problem is throughout whatever clear film of paint is left in these areas.

    Your question,

If you want to know if there is something you can do to the new paint to make it match the old paint the answer is, "no" not without purposefully harming the paint, i.e. dulling it down or artificially hazing and clouding it.

In order to make good paint look like bad paint you have to do bad things to the good paint, which would be kind of wacky.
