  • First New Car - Paranoid Waxer

Hi everyone. This is my first post - concerning our first new vehicle (2006 Honda CRV - silver exterior). I think I have read all the relevant "how do you do a new car" posts....but still have some questions:
    1. I don't need to polish, correct - It brings out the colour, but with the light colour of our CRV, is it really needed?.....Not that I'm lazy.
    2. The car will be stored outside, under two huge cedar trees, here in Vancouver, B.C. area. So, we don't seem to have a sap problem - just falling cedar leaves.....would Gold Class wax be a good choice? And would paste wax offer a bit better/longer protection?
    3. There is quite a lot of black plastic trim on the car. Would the Gold Glass hampoo/conditioner
and wax be good for this material, as weell - or is there another product?
    4. Finally (for now), I might need some coaxing or demonstration on using the clay ( if I get any bumps)....."New car Paranoia"!
Thanks in advance for any feedback....Bill.

    1. Correct, you dont have to everytime. Once in a while would be good though, esp as the car gets older. Another easy way to get aound this is using a cleaner/wax. ColorX + #21 is a great combo.

    2. Personaly, I would pick #21 Synthetic Sealant for protection. Liquid or paste waxes are the same.

    3. Gold Class is an excllent shampoo for your car, although I have found that Nxt cleans a little better, esp in winter. I actualy have bottles of both, and do mix them sometimes. Not sure if it really does anything, but whatever.

As far as the trim itself, you will want to apply a dressing to protect it. Several good choices are All-Season Dressing, Hyper-Dressing, or the Trim Detailer.

    4. Clay is great.... remember paint first, then glass/trim, then wheels, then mufflers/tips.

Claying with the Quick Clay Kit isn't hard and it won't do any damage to your new car. Just remember to use plenty of lubricant on the bar and the paint (I prefer QD myself) and protect afterwards. There seems to be a great deal of support on this forum for claying a new car because of all the things the paint can pick up as it makes its way to you (ships, trains, sitting on the lot, etc.). This came as a surprise to me because I always assumed that a car fresh from the dealer must be clean.

I clayed my car a week after using #9, #7 and NXT wax with a PC and was stunned at how much **** it pulled off the surface. I didn't think it was worthwhile prior to that but I'm a convert, no question. I thought swirl remover would do much the same thing but I was wrong!
