  • Follow-up Polishing -- When?

Did a complete detailing of my '66 Sunbeam Tiger in Feb., '06, finishing with NXT on a relatively new, altho inexpensive, paint (BRG). As I prepare for British Car Day on Oct 1, '06, how do you recommend the paint preparation? I do drive the Tiger frequently & keep the finish fresh with either Quick Wax or Quick Detailer.

    Thanx -- Jim

      Well Jim,
Since you started with NXT I am a bit unclear why you went to using the Quick Wax and the Quick detailer. Not that they aren't good products because they are. In order to prep that puppy for a show Personally I would use the smooth suface clay kit first.
Then follow it with the NXT wax. To keep it looking good Use NXT speed detailer.

How about some pictures of that Tiger...Cool cars!

        Re: Follow-up Polishing -- When?

Hey Ken -- Thnx for the reply re' the Tiger -- I had begun the whole detailing procedure (after his bath) with the clay, then polishers, etc. Incidentally, Hobbes (thar's our Tiger) took 1st in Class at the Brithish Car Day show this past Oct. He's now receiving a new clutch transplant + Edelbrock carburetor, water pump, etc.

OK, now -- our '93 MR2 -- red, with sun-fade -- received the same full detailing last spring, including an application of COLORx - which did help a lot in removing the faded stuff, finishinf with the NTX. Bye-the-bye, I did attend the detailing Clinic in Irvine, CA, with my vintage car club last winter & got a lot of stuff including the polisher. To my question: How do you recommend prepping the finish this spring?

        Thnx -- Jim

          1. Wash if needed
          2. Clay if needed
          3. Re-polish each panel with M80 Speed Glaze by machine
          4. Re-wax with two thin coats of NXT Tech Wax by machine

Take the car to a car show and show it off!

Pretty hard to beat the results created by the M80/NXT Tech Wax Combination applied with a G100 Dual Action Polisher using good technique.

Hey Folks --- Yes, Hobbes has been discharged from the hospital after all of his transplants. He is intending to attend British Rolling Car Days -- which means that I will not be able to work the Long Beach Gran Prix for the 1st time in many years. However there are indeed priorities to be respected!!!!
We hope to see many of you there. Also, reminder: Fallbrook Vintage Car Show is May 27 -- entry forms available @ fallbrookvintagecarclub.com. No entry fee for spectators. Jim 'n' Jan 'n' Bandit 'n' de ja Blue II

                            Kind'a depends,

If it's just the two of us and the weather is OK we'll be driving our Jensen Healey:

If we bring along a friend or the weather is like last year's (we got rained on pretty good) we'll be in the MINI:

Seems I have lotsa questions: 1) Do you buff between the 2 applications of NXT? 2) Why 2 coats of NXT? 3) Are theW8006 & W8009 Foam Polishing Pads washable? I've done the M80/NXT to 1/2 of the slightly oxidized red
MR2 & the result is gratifying -- not showroom on this 100K+ '93, but much, much better. As I said, the last application of NXT (after full detailing) was about 2/06 -- when I washed Tantrum (we name our cars also) Sat. the water was still beading up like fresh wax -- amazng!

Thnx again for your guidance. Jim 'n' Jan 'n' Bandit 'n' de ja Blue II
