I have a Hitachi SP 18VA. I used some fine cut cleaner to remove some defects then followed up by using some Swirl Remover 2.0 M0916. I hand waxed using NXT. I put the swirls in the paint while using the fine cut cleaner. I only got the swirls on the sides. Hood and top turned out good. I used a figure Eight type motion when I applied the swirl remover. The swirls can only be seen in direct sunlight. The car is Black. Any suggestions on technique? The only thing I can think of is i didn't apply enough pressure on the sides?

Welcome to Meguiar's Online!
Creating a 100% swirl free finish using only a rotary buffer as viewed in any light setting is lofty goal for most people and many times you can get to about 90% to 95% of this goal.
You have to remember that some factors are in your control, (technique, pad and product choice), while other factors you have not control over at all, (paint hardness or softness and overall polishability).
For most people, it's easier and more reliable to re-polish each panel using a tool that gets away from direct drive rotating action, for example a dual action polisher, either electric or air powered.
Here are a couple of thread you might want to take the time to read through as your questions/issues have been brought up and discussed before.
