  • Making sure I have this right for my new truck...

    Hello all!

First post here. Been lurking for a while, but just decided to register to get some advice. Hope I don't turn into too much of a pest

I've got a brand new 2006 Chevy Silverado Jon Moss edition truck(500 miles so far). It's white with orange stripes down the hood(like the 69 Camaro Pace Car).

I've had my DA for a few years now, but after reading these forums, I don't think I've ever done it right

I was planning on going this route for the first time....

    1- wash
    2- clay bar
    3- wash again
4-use the DA and apply #80

Now come my questions! Should I use a bonnet to remove the #80? What wax should I use? I keep hearing people talk about #21, but I can't find it in anything less that a 64oz jug. Is there a smaller size avaliable and is that a final step? And should I remove my wax with a bonnet?

I am going to be purchacing the bonnets(if I need them) the #80 and whatever wax you guys suggest.

If there's anything I am missing, please chime in and set me straight!

    Thanks in advance!!!!!

If you really want to see the DA used right, order the How-To video from Mike Phillips and Richard Lin from Autodetailingsolutions.com (ADS) or showcargarage.com.

    Anywho,

Are the stripes painted or vinyl graphics. Of course be carefull around the edges if they are vinyl. You should be able to find many threads around here for working with graphics.

#21 is available in a 16oz size. I dont know if it is on the Meguiars website, but ADS has it advertised as well.

It is easiest to remove the polish with a Supreme Shine towel, or other high quality towel as you go. For removing the wax, you can use bonnets over the 7006 pad. DO NOT USE THE 7006 PAD DIRECTLY ON THE PAINT. Only under bonnets.

#21 is my favorite, and two coats will look good and last quite a while. Or at least they do for me.

Dont forget to be washing with Grit Guars if possible, good soap, towels, sponges, etc.

Not to be too far off topic (or sound too naive), but who or what is Jon Moss? I probably should know this, but.....

Jon Moss is the Godfather of GM's special vehicles team. He's the one that built the Impala SS and other SS cars.

Here's a link for anyone wanting to know more about Jon Moss or the truck... http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/stories/moss/page1.html

That would explain it.... I'm a Jeep/Mopar with a little Ford sprinkled in guy. Cool looking truck... Looks pretty rare... Thanks for the info/history.

I wouldn't recommend washing after the clay step as you are "washing" the car with the clay step using the Quik Detailer. Just remember to wipe each section with a clean MF towel before you move on to the next one. I would say this is especially true for a new car. You could also optionally apply a polish between the clean and wax stages.

            1) Wash
            2) Clay
            3) Clean (#80)
            4) Wax
            5) Wax
