  • New Member - Spider Webbing assistance required!

    Hi Everyone,

My name is Matt, long time reader, first time poster.

I live in Sydney Australia I own a 2005 Honda Accord Euro 6 Speed Manual (Stick) - Sold as Accura TSX in the US.

I have been using Meguiars products for approx 7 years and have found them to be generally excellent, I own #21, #09, #80, #02, ScratchX, Colour Boost, Endurance Tyre Cleaner, 3M Cleaner Clay, NXT Liquid & Paste, Quik Detailer, NXT Car Wash. I read with some degree of amusement some angst over pricing, I recently bought #21 here for $120 AUD ~ $88 USD.

Why I write here is that I have a problem. The problem I have with my vehicle is spider webbing, I have tried everything to remove it but as yet have had little success.

I have tried the following products:

    #02, #80, #09

We do not have access to #83 in Australia, I noticed from another post that #09 is considered slightly more aggressive than #80 but not as aggressive as #83.

I have applied all the above products using my Metabo Random Orbital Sander - metabo.com.au/ [Edited for commercial link]
and #8006 Meguiars Pads on approx 1/4 to 1/2 speed.

I ordered a few days ago the DVD from ShowCarGarage that features Mike to give me any more hints and tips.

Your hints, tips and advice are greately appreciated.

    Thanks

    Matt

    Hi there,

Your car looks good! From the pictures it's hard to tell that the car has spider webbing, maybe you could take a close-up?

I have a random orbit with almost exactly the same specs as yours, a Bosch PEX400AE. I'd say from your speed settings, that you're running it a bit to slow. Although it has a higher opm rating than the PC/G100, the throw/orbit isn't as large as on the PC, which means it does less work at the same opm's. I'd say you should try to run it at 80-90% of max speed when polishing, to be able to do some work, and to properly break down the polish. Also be sure to move the machine slowly, at about 1-2 inch per second, and work a small area like 1 sq foot, with several overlapping passes, until the polish has broken down.

Regarding the polishes, #9 is less aggressive than #80, only about the same as #82. So I'd suggest trying #80 with the above.

I think you are really gonna like the DVD, it's very helpful to watch something done, instead of just reading about it.

      Thanks

Unfortunately the pics aren't the best, there is what I would describe as slight to medium spider webbing on the whole vehicle.

Any ideas on what I can try differently from the experts?

      Cheers

      Matt
