  • Remove Recent Waxing...

    Greetings All:
Love all the mequiars products and get all great compliments from it.

Question: I just recently polished and waxed my Hemi(Red). I most certainly have plenty of swirls and some(ever so slight) fading or oxidation(truck is not garaged). I want to use either the scratchx or M80 on the whole truck. But like I said, I just polished and waxed it. So can I use dish soap to get the polish and wax off quicker(when I wash it) so I can get better and sooner results from the scratchx or M80?

    Many Thanks To All:

I've found dishwashing detergent (e.g., Dawn) to be a pretty poor wax remover. It sure won't dent a healthy coat of #16! There are better ways to do it:

-Just polish through it with the #80. In *some* instances a very healthy LSP will make the pad gum up if you do this, but it's not a huge deal and it doesn't happen all that often.

-Use a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Step #1.

-Use some kind of solvent-based approach. There are some wide-ranging options here, from citrus-based products to the kind of solvents that bodyshops use (with a lot of stuff in between those extremes).

One choice that's pretty common is rubbing alcohol, either straight or cut 50:50 with water. You apply it to the waxed surface, let it dwell for a little while, then wipe off with a soft MF.

-Last, and IMO least, you could use clay, but IMO this is a misuse of that product and would require far more aggressive claying than I like to do.
