  • Protecting Chrome on an Engine

    Hey Guys,

One of my Mates has a Harley Davidson Motorbike and was wondering what he could use to protect the Chrome on the Engine on his Motorbike? Bearing in mind that the chrome is in good condition at the moment he just wants somthing he can put on it to protect it and keep it looking good.

I was reading in a few other threads when I done search that ppl were just putting wax like NXT on the chrome, Would this hold up on the Extremley hot cooling fins on an Engine thats Chrome Plated, or is there a special Meguiars product for this?

    Thanx, Simo

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but there is no wax that can hold up under extreme constant heat.

I'd reccomend NXT All Metal Polysh simply because its meant for chrome and I've used it with great sucess.

A metal polish (and wax in one) is probably the best bet. Make sure he keeps the pipes clean and protected or they might start turning orange/brown after a while.

NXT All Metal polish works great! I wouldn't give it up works very well.

I have used NXT All Metal polish on my stainless steel gas grill and I don't think it held up to the heat sure didn't seem like it and I really didn't expect it to. I would agree with SiriusRIMZ on the extreme heat issue.

          Thanx for your help guys!

So basicly what you guys are saying is there is nothing that will hold up to the heat that will protect the chrome like a wax does to car paint?

but if he wants to clean the chrome then NXT Metal polish is the way to go.

I would agree with that, NXT Metal Polish does add protection but how long it will hold up(as for the protection) who knows but it will sure help keep the chrome looking good if applied from time to time.

On my vn800 the nxt gene shine lasts about a week or use.....I use my bike to carry my detailing equipment around in so it gets a fair amounts of kilometers per week. I use it on my forks, wheels, engine and exhust as well as anywhere their is stainless, chrome or alumminium, but you have to have a lot of passion and a load of time to apply it correctly.
