  • TW ice true to its name... it melts

In my neverending quest to find the perfect trim product for my bumpers, I wanted to try some TW ice, since I read it can also be used on trim with no problem.

Since it's a sealant/wax of some sort, I thought to myself "good it's probably gonna last much longer than my other trim products".

So I tried it on a small spot, result was as I read, no problem. I then proceeded to wax the entire bumpers of my winter car, wipe after an hour, then put it back to its resting place until november. It's outside and uncovered, so it is exposed to sun and rain everyday.

2 weeks after I did it, I go back to see how it's going and was greeted by this :

As if it wasn't already bad enough that birds have been using my car as a public toilet

I thought the short lasting reputation of ice to be exaggerated, now I know.

At least I didn't pay for the product.

Maybe it's only to be used in cold weather. ??

My first thought here was - if this is a water based dressing then it's no wonder it basically washed off in the rain. Then I realized you're talking about the Turtle's new wax/sealant so I did some quick research on it.

It sounds like it's pretty heavy with polishing oils and the manufacturer recommends against heavy buffing to remove it, almost implying that you want to leave a pretty decent coating of this on the surface. They say it does not dry like a traditional wax, so I'm inclined to think it behaves a little bit more like one of Meguiar's pure polishes (#7 for example) in that regard. How then is it supposed to last for 3-4 months like they claim? The two almost seem contradictory to me.

Skuz, did you try any on the paint, and if so, is there any evidence that it's still working there?

I guess in the end I just have a hard time with a product that claims to work equally well on all types of surfaces. There just has to be a compromise somewhere.......probably on trim pieces

On the paint ? NO WAY !!!

I already have my wax of choice : NXT.

It's something for the trim bumpers I'm looking for. I tried many products over the years. Still haven't found the right one. Sometimes I think the car will die before I find it.

After seeing this, I will not recommend that product to anyone. I'll direct them to Gold Class if they are willing to invest one more buck.

I rewashed the car this weekend and NXT is obviously still there.

Meanwhile, I'm using one of the trim products I have.

As far as Turtle wax is concern, I think that Platinum is much better then Ice. Of course NXT or #21 is the way to go.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought the point of the "Turtle Wax Ice" was not to be applied to plastic body panels and trim, but to rather be a paint wax that just so happens to dry clear on trim if you *accidentally* apply some to the trim. Granted, it shouldn't run off the car as previously shown.

On their website they actually recommend using it on every exterior surface of the car, including paint, rubber, plastic, plastic decals and on car emblems. They really do intend it to be a universal one step exterior product. To their credit they also say that it will NOT remove oxidation, scratches ect as it is not a restorative polish.
