  • How would you attack this finish!

I had a previous customer bring me her new car she picked up about 2 months ago. Initially the car looked in perfect condition. So we backed it out into the sun, and I brought out the brinkman. Upon further review of the finish it really was in perfect condition no DISO nothing. I couldn't find a single swirl on this car. Now most cars brought to me are in bad shape, and I know what it takes (after a test spot) to get them swirl free. So this one stumped me for a second. I was trying to figure out what to use.

    I'll

    Wash and Clay

But where do I go from here? I see no reason for a paint cleaner, but I have almost everything in my bag. So should I just go to straight to a polish #7, then wax #21.

Or how would you approach this car?

It's a 2006 Ford Freestyle Limited - Dark Shadow Grey Metallic

If it's a daily driver (Freestyle probably gives that away), I'd probably go the #66 route on the G100 and W8006 at speed 3-4 to put a little polish and wax on it at the same time and call it done. Top it with some GC or #26, that might be overkill though. Heck, you could probably just use GC all alone as well since it has some polishing oils as well.

If it were a show car with no flaws, then #7 followed by GC or #26 since it's black. I'm not a big fan of NXT on dark colors yet for some reason, and I think #21 would similar to NXT.

Just my .02, but there really shouldn't be a wrong way to go with this new of car that doesn't have any swirling or cobwebbing.

Might be a good time for some #82 and #21.

if its as good as u say then it makes sense to use number 7 to give greater depth to the paint and then seal it in with nxt or 21 x 2

Have her take it to the local car wash for a few weeks first then you can use your diamond cut with a a wool pad on it.

            Hey,

The first thing to check to see is if the car is truly swirl free. While the Xenon light works well, and you backed it out in the sun, one thing bothers me: she bought 2 months ago from the dealer. That fact makes me wonder if there is some heavy glaze hiding the swirls. I would take a 50/50 mix of Iso Alcohol and water and wipe a small area and check again. Then decide which route to take.

If it is still swirl free, then I would use #82 followed by 2 coats of #21.

We'll I did the detail yesterday (Sorry no Pics. Camera broke). As I stated earlier, this thing was flawless. I looked at the paint with a Brinkman, Sunlight, and Hologen lights. I have done 2 cars for this customer (now 3). She hated how the swirls kept coming back. So I showed her the way. I went out and bought all the supplies for her (Grit Guard, SS MF, WM, ), and showed her how to wash it correctly. So with that in mind, her new car coming to me swirl free was not a surprise..

              I washed with GC

              #82 - 9006
              #21 x's 2 - 9006

              Thanks, for all your help!
