  • Fiberglass topper polish question

Any suggestions on polishing a topper? It is fiberglass. White. Had some decals on it at one time and where the were removed it shines really nice but the rest of the top is fadded. I mainly use a rotary buffer( but am hoping to win a G100...hint, hint ).

    Thanks for any help,
    Rob

    Hey Rob,

Is the canopy gel coat or automotive base coat/clear coat?

If your topper is Gel Cote, Meguiar's has a Marine Line with specific products made for fiberglass. I'm working on my RV now, (as I find time..) and I've experimented with several of them. If the oxidation isn't too bad, try the M50 One Step Cleaner Wax. If it's really bad, you could try the M67 One Step Compound. Fiberglass can be kind of challenging though......

Search on Fiberglass here and you'll see a few posts here where Mike gives some tips.

        Hey,

        Just to add...

You need to make sure that your canopy is either gel coat or BC/CC. Meguiar's #67 is a very aggressive one step compound that works extremely well on gel coat. One trick I like to use is using the #67 with the PC and a W-7006 Cutting Pad. Follow this with #44 Color Restorer and a W-8006 Polishing Pad and top with Flagship Marine Wax. Or...you can use #67 with the rotary and a W-4000 Wool Pad and the follow it with the #44 and the Flagship Wax with the respective foam pads.

If it is BC/CC however, you will do a lot of damage with #67. If it is BC/CC treat it like automotive paint. Use #83 with the rotary and a W-8006 Pad. Some canopies have very scratch sensitive paint. If that is the case, you may need to step down to #82 Swirl Free Polish or even #66 Quick Detailer and then top with your favorite LSP.
