  • Rain issue and question.

I used Meguiars Deep Crystal System for the first time yesterday. I spent all afternoon on it only to have it pour rain all night. I let the car air dry and it looks just as good, except for the dirty road water my tires kicked up onto the body while driving it home in the rain.

The car doesn't feel as smooth to the touch as it had after I waxed it, and though water spots are not present, I was wondering if I lost some of the protection due to the rain. I would also like some suggestions on what quick detailer I should be using.

    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure how smooth DC#3 feels after it rains.. some waxes lose their slickness sooner than others.

As far as a detailer to use, any of them are quite alright. Quick Detailer, Nxt, Final Inspection, or Last Touch are all quite good. If you plan to use a whole lot, then buying one of the bulk ones may be a good idea.

Good to know. Is there any difference in the quick detailers you've listed? Pros and cons? Thanks.

For claying, I like Quick Detailer.

For after washes, or while drying, I like the Nxt.

So I have bottles of both. Having switched over to #21, I find myself using a spray detailer a lot more often now. I used to use Nxt Spray Wax a lot with the Nxt Wax (that wax also lost its slickness quickly), but #21 seems to keep going and going with just a detailer, so I may be buying one of the bulk ones after these Nxt bottles run out to try.

It is recommended to let a wax/sealant cure for 12 hours before exposing it to water/rain. So having it rain all night could have disturbed the wax in curing proberly, and resulted in some of the protection being lost.

But it's an easy fix, just give it another coat of wax (after washing). Two coats of wax will be better than just one, and it's recommended to (ideally) wait 12 hours before the second coat of wax anyway. It's also best to wait at least 12 hours before using a QD on a fresh coat of wax.

          Oh and, to MOL!

What I recommend is drying it as much as possible when you finish driving for the day in your garage. Use Quik Detailer afterwords if possible too, if not do it in the morning.

But for a better fix, you may want to wash it and reapply that one layer of wax again.

Once you guys wash the car do you apply the QD before you dry it or after?

I apply after or while drying it.

Can you tell a difference when applied while drying as opposed to after its dry?

Gosh.. it looks good both ways. I'd say if anything, it might be a little slicker doing it after. And I probably use a little more when drying with it.

Rained again today. It should be the last day with rain for sometime.

I will wash the car again, reapply the wax, use a quick detailer after that, and that should be it.

                      Right?

Well, you still don't wanna use a QD right after waxing, as this will disturb the wax from curing properly. The 12 hour rule of thumb is good to remember. After waxing (ideally) wait at least 12 hours before: Washing, QD'ing, driving in the rain, wiping, touching , etc. If you wan't to give it a second coat of wax it is also best to wait 12 hours, but if it is mostly to ensure a uniform layer, you can rewax sooner.
