  • Uncoated Aluminum Wheels are (rust) Pitting...???

Can anyone help me out with alittle advise?
I have a '99 Mazda Miata. I happen to live near the ocean and the aluminum wheels are "pitting" (I think it's rust/debris, it's a BLACK pitting on the wheels).
What/how do I safely remove the pitting that is staining the finish of the stock (uncoated) aluminum wheels?
Any advise would sure help me out. Thanks alot.

    First, to MOL!!!

You need to use a polish, such as Meguiars Nxt All Metal Polysh, to help remove oxidation and help restore a great shine.

I've never used All Metal Polysh, so I don't know exactly how well it cleans, but it is supposed to leave a brilliant shine. If this doesn't take care of the problems, then you might switch to someting like Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish, which I do know to clean very well

      to MOL binsky,

Technically, “rust” only happens on ferrous metals like steel but aluminum corrodes in its own way and that’s what you have.

Yes, NXT All Metal Polysh is the product of choice to clean up the corrosion. Start with that and see how it goes.

If the pitting is very deep you may have to use much more aggressive specialized metal cutting compounds and/or abrasives to remove it completely.

      PC.

        Aluminum Wheels...."Black Pitting" problem...

        Thank you for the advise.
I will try it and see how well it takes off the the "Black Pitting" problem.

I had always had the car in a dry warm climate (San Diego, CA) so I never had this problem before moving to southern Maine coast (very wet and humid weather here).
Thanks alot for the tips... I hope it is easy to apply and does the job.
