  • synthetic VS. carnauba waxes

I`ve only used Mothers cleaner wax (it was cheap) but I`ve noticed that the paint doesn`t seem to have as much depth after NXT spray wax was used on top of the Mothers. I`ve heard before that synthetics can have a more plastic looking reflection on paint than the carnaubas but this was really noticeable. I used an even coat applicator to apply the spray wax since I was worried about overspray on my trim. Anybody else noticed something like this? My truck is black and has single stage paint so I think that may have made it more noticeable. I would love to grab some gold class wax to compare to but I`m a little short on cash.

From a whole host of products i've used from a variety of amnufacturers I have noticed a general trend in the differences between selaents and carnuaba waxes in the style of finish you get... On the whole, selaents I have found to be more refelctive, giving sharper reflections but many leave a slightly cols and clinical look to the paint - this was a lot worse before with earlier sealents, many selaents nowadays are catching up and looking a lot less clinical while still maintaining there main advantage of increased durability over traditional carnuabas.

Carnuaba waxes on the other hand, while not having the sharpness of reflection or generally speaking the increased durability of a synthetic selaent, do produce a much warmer finish I find - the paint is glossier and deeper looking, hard to describe the difference exactly in words, but its the carnuaba look I favour on most colours.

Thanks Griffin. I wanted to make sure it wasn`t just me. I`ll rewax my truck with a carnauba once monsoon season ends. That NXT spray made the water bead up a lot better so my truck will be getting another coat of that tonight.

You might want to try NXT Tech Wax -- either paste or liquid. I find that it looks great on my black Hemi. I used carnauba wax exclusively for over 40 years. I switched to NXT Tech Wax when it first came out. I cannnot tell the difference in "depth and warmth" from the canaubas. The new sealants look great and are a heck of a lot tougher.

By the way, NXT Spray Wax is intended to be a "booster" for NXT Tech Wax .

So would it have a strange look when it`s applied over a carnauba? or does it look the same as NXT wax?

Nxt Spray wax will work fine over carnuba or synthetic waxes. The big thing is making sure the paint itself is well prepared, then you will be OK with either kind of wax.

You already know that the spray waxes are only booster waxes, so you are on a good track. Just make sure your paint is clayed and cleaned, and you will be in good shape no matter what.
