  • I Need To Stop Her !!!!

A friend of mine is considering (strongly) getting a SIMONIZE treatment done to her car for $300....then she found a local Car Wash francise that will do it for $200, theirs is called ValuGard...I've been on this forum for 2 years almost and thought I could defend the position of not wasting the money....She will never wax the vehicle and thinks this is the way to go...and in fact she convinced about the three year warranty...here's the quote from Simonize:

"Acid rain, which is the EPA documented results of industrial pollution, bird waste and tree sap, which are also highly acidic and the harmful UV rays from the sun. These contaminants destroy the clearcoat paint finish on your vehicle resulting in permanent water spotting, blemishes, oxidation, fading and loss of gloss. The Simoniz SYSTEM 5 warranty program will repair or repaint your vehicle if it should develop paint damage caused by acid rain, tree sap, bird waste or UV from the sun.

How can I convince her to not waste the money ????....

I'd be interested to see what would happen if you actualy went back with a water etching on the car...

But at any rate, if they actualy will do a good detailing job, remove swirls, etc, then maybe it doesnt matter how long the wax lasts.

Is there any way you could both go, and check out their work in the sun?

Or you could just offer to detail her car once a year for $100....

well....maybe the only way to convince her is by showing her things with facts :P. the more you know, the less you can be tricked with false information. but sometimes you have to let people go for the first choice. if it fails, and if you detail cars (I think so because of the pic you have), then THAT'S when you can make her YOUR customer :P

However, as murr Says, if the detailing job pleases her, no matter how long her wax or shine, lasts, she'll still go.

so again, as murr said, the only way to stop her in this case is to give her a better offer in the price of her detail. BTW, if you are confident in your skills and can give her a long lasting shine, or convince her to buy a frequent car care program from you (let's say, wax her car 4 times a year for a certain amount, making a discount from the original retail price), that's where you have the best opportunity to make her not to go there (an win some cash).

just be sure to know what does she expect from your job, in case you convince her.

      hope this helps

Email her this thread so that she can see what detail enthusiasts have to say about this.

My opinion: bogus/false claims are made by the company offering the Simonize treatment. Alot of people fall for detailer paint sealants (just a wax really), spending thousands of dollars on a treatment that is supposed to last for years. In reality, it is only a wax that, just like all other waxes, will wear away after a month or so (depending on outside conditions).

Please, maam, if you are reading this, don't fall for that company's claims. All you are recieving is a wax, which costs way less than you are being offered.

Instead, why not try out meguiar's waxes? Many auto stores carry Meguiar's waxes such as Gold Class liquid car wax, or NXT liquid car wax. If you want to see what Meguiar's waxes are capable of, check out the "Show Off" and "Extreme Makeovers" sections of the Meguiar's Online forums.

The part I put in red in the above quote is a very powerful statement. One might think "how and why would a company make such a claim if their product didn't work?"

But.....what is truly involved in this warranty? What does the fine print say - do you have to take the vehicle back every six months, or annually, for additional treatments? If so, at what cost? What is the recommended treatment when those bird droppings or that tree sap appears? Surely they don't just wash off with a little soap and water thanks to the impervious barrier presented by this product.

As enthusiasts we all know about how soft paint can really be, yet the average consumer would consider it to be quite hard. Is that same consumer really supposed to think that a product sprayed on (or wiped on, etc), yet not visibly hiding the paint, is going to be somehow "harder" or "stronger" than the paint itself? This just doesn't make sense to me.

The problem is that if she isnt going to take care of it anyway, even recomending a Meguiars wax isnt going to do anything for her.

If you can get her to realize the wax wont do anything, you made a start.

Find out what on earth that warranty is about, and see how they do removing swirls and whatnot.

Let her do what she wants, she will do it anyway. My daughter did the same thing to the Taurus she bought. She had the car 7 months, it been washed twice. Thats allright my other daughter is the same way. Clean the windows and the rain will take care of the rest.

It's not enough money to battle for. I don't think you would want to compete against such a low price (I know you will want to make her car perfect). If it was a thousand dollar job you could give her a high quality detail for a fraction of the cost. I think it would be tough to make savings available at $200 with a WARRANTY, and do a quality job.
