  • Application procedure and product question

Good evening everyone. Quick background - I intend on purchasing a Mustang GT soon and I wanted to practice the art of car detailing (which I'm addicted to now lol). I researched alot of car cleaning/detailing products and decided to go with Meguiar's line. To test out the line, I bought the NXT liquid wax to use on my '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I couldn't believe the results of just the wax. I was sold, or more like bought - $100 worth of products from Meg's.

After reading through the forums and googling various sites, I threw together this procedure which I intend to do to my jeep upon arrival of my products. If anyone could just give a clarification of "correctness", I'd appreciate it.

1.) Clean tires with NXT tire cleaner.
1.) Wash car with NXT car wash.
    2.) Clay bar kit.
    3.) Deep crystal paint cleaner.
4.) Wax car with NXT liquid wax.
5.) NXT all metal polish rims.
    6.) NXT Tire coating.

    Three questions:
1.) I also ordered the ScratchX, and my jeep has alot of scratches. I am leary using it because I read it removes a little bit of paint. If used properly, would the paint removed be noticeable? I am hesitant to use it on a brand new Mustang.
2.) Should I rewash the car after the clay baring? (I think I read that it's user preference but just to make sure).
3.) Is it the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner that removes the "cobweb" swirls, or the ScratchX? Or is it a combination of both?

I appreciate everyone's advice/opinions. I'm very pleased thus far with Meg's and here's hoping to future dealings!

    to MOL. Steps look great.

ScratchX is a great product. Have no worries about using it on any car. It is designed to remove scratches and swirls. It is a paint cleaner, so DC #1 will not have to be used in the areas ScratchX is used.

I do not wash after using clay. I feel it is just more work.

Both products will remove swirls. ScratchX is more aggressive than DC#1, so is works quicker.

Good luck with the purchase. Hope you get exactly what you want.
Watch your pennies and your dollars will take care of themself.

Looks good, though you might want a polish as well like DC#2, esp if you are getting a dark color.

Forgive the lack of lingo (even after reading the acronym thread), but what is DC#2? I'm assuming DC stands for Deep Crystal, but is it the comsumer line or one of the other lines?

So if I want to remove scratches and swirls over the entire vehicle (first true detailing in 11 years), I just use the ScratchX over the entire exterior and go straight to wax - or should I put the DC on it to "polish" the paint in preperation for waxing?

My jeep is a dark green, the Mustang will be Vista Blue.

        Thank you!

DC#1 = Deep Crystal Step 1 Paint Cleaner
DC#2 = Deep Crystal Step 2 Pure Polish
DC#3 = Deep Crystal Step 3 Carnuba Blend Wax

Deep Crystal is in the Consumer Line, in those maroon bottles.

ScratchXing a whole vehicle *****.... But it can be done. Better plan to detail 1/4 a day or so.

For a full detail, you would want to:

          Wash
          Clay
          Clean
          Polish
          Wax

So, if you ScratchX everything, or a section, then you dont need to use Deep Crystal Cleaner on that section. But you could follow up with the Deep Crystal Polish. Then wax.

Dont get confused by different companies terminologies. Give the 5-step thread a reread, just to be clear on what Meguiars means by each step.

Re-read, understand it better, but I think I did let myself get confused by different company terminology.

I can't find Deep Crystal Pure Polish anywhere, so I'm assuming it's just anothe product in another product line under Car polish - Pure Polish?

The DC#2 will be in the Meguiars online store somewhere there...I think there is a section for polishes. Lemme throw up a pic here. Not sure if the link still works since they re-designed the site, but you can try it.
