  • Question on cleaning wheels

I was at the local detail supply shop and saw some wheel brightener there. Although it was not Megs, it is along the same lines. I was thinking I needed it but the more I read it can be really harsh. I have done in the excess of a few hundred cars in the past and the shop I was in they said just rinse quick. Diluted APC has never caused me a prblem and I have seen wheel acid(which I assume is the same) destroy some wheels. We never paid much attention to the types of wheels so with my customers I used diluted APC to be safe. Considering I now have my own business I am paying more attention as to what I can and cant use on wheels. We used wheel brightener on chrome and I now understand soap and water is the way to go.

So my main question is what is the difference in polished aluminum and these different finishes. For instance I had an 87 GTA a few years back and the wheel brightener killed the lip around the edge. I always had to polish. I believe the rims on the IROC were the same.

Maybe some pics of the different types. Thanks guys.

Sure glad I found this place. I am trying to take my business a step above the rest. Those are a lot of the things going on in my area I want to do differently.

When unsure....stick to soap and water. Play it safe when your name is on the door.

Wow that was my fastest reply ever (1 min). LOL. I get some that the brake dust is brown, the wheels that havent been cleaned in a year. Maybe just a little APC. It seems that chrome comes clean really easy though. I have had to go after some with APC and rag they were so bad. On occasion I would get a 92 Cavallier or something that was hammered.

Nothing a little NXT metal polish couldn't handle!
