  • Another Cleaner/Wax-NXT question

In a couple of weeks I'll be detailing my daughter's silver 2002 Toyota Tacoma. I'm pretty sure that I'll be doing it by hand. I have just about every Meguiars product except #66 and #21.

I plan to clay the truck as needed and top "whatever" cleaner/wax with NXT paste wax.

Which cleaner/wax what would give me the best results with the least effort -- #12, ColorX, or #6? (We newly retired guys like to pace ourselves.)

I'll just bet that there really is not much difference. Just use whatever I have the most of.

How about the final answer, Mike?

ColorX is not a cleaner/wax (someone correct me if I am wrong) I think its a polish and wax which will yeild great, fast results.
I would prob use a cleaner only like DC1, then Colorx, then NXT to make it simple.

      ColorX is indeed a cleaner/wax.

Working by hand, ColorX well worked in topped with Nxt would be best.

By machine, ColorX also works, but #66 may give better results.

        Thanks for the info Murr

I always thought ColorX was just a Polish/Wax since on meguiars homepage, they say:

"Meguiar’s COLORX® is the tested and proven system to restore deep color and gloss from your oxidized or contaminated paint finish. Helps remove fine scratches and swirl marks too. Our polish and wax combination will dramatically revive brilliant color and add a long lasting protection that locks in the shine. For best results, apply with an Even-Coat Applicator and remove residue with a Supreme Shine Microfiber or Ultra Plush Super Terry."

So does this make ColorX a cleaner/polish/wax? I might have to pick some of this stuff up

All of Meguiars "cleaner/waxes" are actualy Cleaner/Polish/Waxes.

I see what you put in bold, but you'll notice the part before it "removes fine swirls/scratches/oxidation". That is the cleaner part.

#6 is my “go to” cleaner/wax because:

It’s much more aggressive than A12.
It’s very versatile, you can apply it by hand, orbital, DA and rotary.
I already have a half-gallon jug of it.
I haven’t tried ColorX. (IIRC #6 is also more aggressive than ColorX.)

I do find myself using #66 more and more though.

My question is this - does ColorX contain diminishing abrasives or is it a chemical cleaner?

Edit: I found the answer here...

Yes it does, and that is one of the best things about it...

If you have a PC, pick up some #66 - you won't regret it. In my opinion it's by far the most underrated Meguiar's product.

When used correctly it seems to have about the same cleaning/polishing ability of #80. Another added bonus is I can work the entire vehicle and then remove it all at once. Makes my details flow a bit better.

#66 topped with either #21 or TW is hard to beat as a two-step process.
