  • Will this combination work?

I'm thinking of using the following combination on a fortnightly basis.

    - Quick Detailer
    - Cleaner Wax
    - Quick Wax

And monthly, I plan to do a wash, clay (depending on the finish), Scratch X treatment (for more serious defects in the paintwork)followed by Cleaner Wax followed by step 3 of the Deep Crystal Carnauba wax.

For the day-to-day, i've read that a combination of QD and QW works, so I think I'll do that too.

Also, I've read that an area that has been treated with Scratch X should be cleaned, polished and waxed again, as Scratch X will remove the existing wax. If I use Cleaner Wax after Scratch X, will that work?

I'd appreciate any comments on the routine above.

    Thanks for your time

    Hi dude...

Sounds like you are ready to put some work into it

I think there's a little far between the washes if it's only done once a month. A QD is only for light dust/dirt so it won't replace washing the car. When the car is a little more dirty or has been in the rain, it is time for a wash.

It shouldn't be necessary to use a cleaner wax every two weeks. Also it isn't necessary to use a cleaner wax after ScratchX, as ScratchX is a paint cleaner itself. It's better to follow ScratchX with a dedicated wax like NXT, GC or DC3.

    I'll suggest this rutine:

QD - every couple of days, when the car is dusty.
Wash - weekly, or when the car needs it. After washing is a good time to use a Quick Wax.

Then every month you could inspect the paint, and decide what is needed. If there are some defects you could use ScratchX to remove them, then follow with a coat of wax. But what is needed here really depends on the condition of the paint, and what you are trying to achive. If you want to save time you could just do: Wash > Cleaner/Wax. If you want the best possible result, you might want to do something like: Wash > Clay > ScratchX (where needed) > DC1 > DC2 > NXT or GC (or your favorite LSP).

Hope that wasn't too confusing. Here is a good thread to read if you haven't: Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

      Hi Zet,

      Thanks for your advice.

Yes, currently, I do try to wash the car weekly, where time permits. I was trying to see if I could use the QD/QW route when I am not able to do the weekly wash.

I thought using a dedicated wax may be better after Scratch X, but I wasn't sure about cleaning it again, thus the all-in-one Cleaner Wax idea....

      Cheers!
