Glazing and Polishing

I am new and very interested in this product. I heard and knew what polish is all about but I wonder what Glaze is ? In what circumtances we need to polish and when we need to glaze our car finish ? What is actually different between this two ? Do I still need to wax after glaze ? Glazing is lasting or polishing ?

Hi Vincent,

The terms glazing and polishing are very similar that they create brilliant high gloss.

The following article will walk you through all 5 steps, and keep in mind once you get to the polishing step, you'll notice there are 2 kinds of polishes.

1) Pure Polishes
2) Cleaner/Polishes

With that said, "Glazes" usually fall into the pure polish even when applied by hand or machine.

Just to add, different companies use the same words to mean different steps. So dont get confused moving between companies.

Here is a bit of a Meguiars break down:

1. Wash - This is the soapy water step. Mainly to get the big, loosely attatched dirt.

2. Clay - Using a clay bar to remove bonded things off the paint.

3. Clean - Remove dirt from the surface/pores of the paint. Most products have some form of diminishng abrasives to remove swirls as well.

4. Polish/Glaze - Used a bit interchangeably by Meguiars, This is as Mike said, a step to add gloss and depth to the paint by filling in imperfections.

5. Wax/Sealant - Used a bit interchangeably by Meguiars, this is basicaly adding a top coat to protect the surface and seal in your results from the cleaning/polishing steps. Generaly speaking, Meguiars uses 'wax' for carnuba blend products, and 'sealant' for synthetic products.
