  • Clear Coat Overspray

My neighbors were doing a back yard paint job on there 21' boat trailer with BC/CC. My truck was in my driveway and I had no idea they were painting until later in the day when I left and notices I had clear coat overspray on my truck. I was able to remove the rough feeling, but not all the spots where it dried. Is there anything that the G100a can use to remove the clear coat spots or should it go to a pro with a rotary to do? I have tried #83 a few times and did not get anywhere, so Im assuming it needs a roatry on it.

    Thanks,
    Nick

Did you use the clay bar?

I used the clay bar to get the rough feeling off, but you can see where the clear coat bonded to the clear coat already on the car. It is little spots all over the hood and down one side of the truck. I stopped at the neighbors house and asked them about there painting and they said they used a clear coat with a hardner added in it. So when it landed on my truck it ended up drying on it and adding more clear to my truck.

You're probably going to have to step up to an abrasive glaze or compound. Maybe start with #80 or #83 or maybe the fine or medium cut cleaners then move up if you have to. If it stuck really really good then you may have to lightly wetsand, but I doubt it adhered that good.

I will give #2 fine cut cleaner a try and see what happens from there. I know that #2 and #83 are the most Megs recommends with the DA. So if those two do not do it, It will have to be professionaly done.

EDIT: I also have to give ScratchX a try. Always forget about the hand products after you use the DA.

I would get that neighbor to pay for the pro buff out if you have it done. Of course trying to get somebody to pay for something that didn't know they did is like getting a Democrat and Republican to agree.

Apparently they know they did it. Go to pro and have them pick up the tab.

                overpray

i would try the pro line clay in the red agressive type.
you willthen have to do a polish and finish. but i would keep track of my time and have them pay. if there is a fight remember the e.p.a. as i am certain they don't allow this outdoors.
but i would try the clay first before i would let someone take a wool pad and whatever compound to my car
                good luck!

This happened a week ago on Friday. ScratchX is doing some good in some spots. I have to try #2 yet because ScratchX is going to be alot of work. I will also try ScratchX by machine and see how that does. Im not sure what the more aggressive clay will do. The regular clay is removing the roughness from the overspray but there are specs of clear coat all over the black truck that really stick out.. Those are level and smooth to the surface after claying, so Im not sure what a more aggressive clay would do for me.

The responsible party is willing to pay for any expenses I have to make and also my time. Hes pretty cool about it. Not sure how many other neighbors had problems if any. I know Im not the only one who parks outside sometimes.
