  • No difference in results #80 and #83

So I used my G100A for the first time and used #80 on a '91 735i. It was completely covered in swirls. #80 did a good job and took out probably 95% of the swirls. I then tried #83 on the panel nex to it to see if I could get all the swirls out. #83 pretty much came out the same with no improvements over #80. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

Hard to say what you're doing wrong without being there to watch you apply the products. M83 and M80 are definitely very different products and M83 is much more aggressive.

Technique is everything and over the years the difference between the results people get when everyone's using the same types of products almost always comes down to technique related factors.

    Techniques:

    Slow Arm Speed
Anywhere from 10 to 15 pounds of downward pressure
Only work on a small section at a time
    Speed setting 5.0

In the last few months, we've had a number of people come to our Saturday classes using M80 and M83 with our yellow W-8006 foam polishing pads with the G100 and these people were not able to get the results they were looking for. We watched their technique and then made some corrections and like magic, they started getting good results.

Outside of that, everyone needs to remember that a huge factor that determines the kind of results a person gets relative to what everyone else is getting has to do with paint type, that is the specific type of paint on your car and this varies so much even between identical models of cars.

For an example, read this thread and take note on what was said about the paint hardness of the 2006 model as compared to the 2005 model. Specifically pages 1 and 3
