  • Halogen -vs- Xenon -vs- Sun

    Hello everyone,

I currently have halogen lighting in my garage which we all know does not show swirls very well especially on my white paint. I also have halogen lights which show some swirls, however it does not show all the defects. I was wondering how the Xenon lights compare to natural sunlight? I know that all the pros use the Xenon lights, however I wanna be sure that I can see 99% of the defects with this light and not have any surprises when I take my car outside on a sunny day. So I guess my question is, how does the Xenon compare to the sun?

    Thanks.

theres a NOMA one at CT for about 30 and it does the trick for me it has Xenon and LED. just hold it about 1-3 ft above the paint and you shall see the swirls! the sun is definatly going to be better than the Xenon but the Xenon still does a good job!

With whatever light you're using, turn out all the *other* lights first.

I myself prefer old-fashioned incandescent lights for most inspecting, and I get high-wattage bulbs (~300W).

I always need natural sunlight to check for holograms though.

I've seen a lot of people talk about this light:

Yeah I can purchase a similar one at Canadian Tire which is a popular hardware store here in Canada which is where sneek purchased his. I was just wondering if I remove all the swirls that can be seen under the Xenon light, is it possible that under the sun I will see more that did not appear with the Xenon?

This morning I decided to purchase the Noma Xenon light at Canadian Tire and it's one of the best purchases I made so far. It shows off swirls so much better than halogen lights. If I am not mistaken, I saw the same amount of swirls with the Xenon than when I look at my car under the sun.
