  • Interior dressing problems

When i try and dress the vinyl on my dash, it looks like it is a different shade of blue in different parts. Could the vinyl not absorb the dressing equally? All the vinyl has had the same exposure to the sun and is in the same condition. Any ideas?

First of all, what are you using for a dressing?

With all dressings, a good practice is to apply the dressing using a clean, soft foam applicator pad, gently working the product thoroughly and evenly into the vinyl, then after allow the product to penetrate and condition the vinyl, wipe any excess off using a clean microfiber polishing cloth. This will act to remove any excess as well as create a uniform appearance over the entire surface.

After doing this, if you still see differences in color or appearance, then it could be that there is a actually a physical difference in the vinyl caused by exposure to the sun or some other factor and all the dressing has done is to reveal the difference to be more easily visible to your eyes.

I use vinylx applied with a white microfiber application disk thing. I dampen the applicator then spray the vinelx onto the applicator then wipe the vinyl with the applicator. I let the product sit for about 5 minutes and then i remove any excess with a soft white cloth (I forget exactly what it is, kinda like a diaper). Then i step back and see that the vinyl looks different in different spots.

Also. what meguiars product would be closest to vinylx. I dont like too much gloss and protection is very important.

I recently used Natural Shine and it was pretty low gloss.

I use the Nxt Tech Protectant (might be called Cockpit Shine now) and it has a little more gloss, but not too bad for me.

Well around here we're kind of Meguiar's folks If you're not getting the results you like using VinylX, then give something like Gold Class Vinyl/Rubber Protectant a shot, it contains a light cleaner that should help to remove the product that's on there, (at least at some level).

You should be able to find this at most auto parts stores.

Fair enough, i will give the gold class a shot. One of my friends just told me that lexol was the best stuff ever made. But they obviously didnt know what they were talking about.

One other question while im talking about lexol and leather cleaning products. The 2 step cleaner and conditioner is usually better than the 1 step products, correct? So it would be better to use the aloe cleaner then the aloe conditioner rather than the gold class cleaner/conditioner.

Ignore the previous question, but would a product like 34, the heavy duty vinyl cleaner be appropriate for this situation?
