  • Do you guys claybar before a heavy compound

Any heavy compounding I did was in the shop. Do you guys clay bar before compound? I would think compound would remove contaminents

Depends on the compound and the pad. A really aggressive compound that uses coarse abrasives will remove pretty much everything especially with a wool pad.

If you're talking about some tough overspray paint on top of paint, then it's likely a foam pad on rotary buffer with a buffered compound like M84 will not remove the overspray because the foam will tend to glide over the droplets of overspray paint versus kick them off.

For the amount difference in time, claying is the most effective method of removing above surface bonded contaminants. by claying first, you enable your choice of product and pad to go right to work at removing the below surface defects.

It is my beater tuck and just very dirty. I will be using a meduim compound by 3m with a wool pad.

Hey also Mike I saw one of your clips for the new video and he was polishing the old ick up with a wool pad. I personally like wool pads and find them easy to use. What product was he polihing with? The truck looked great in the video.
