  • DC Paint cleaner #1

Would this remove any wax that's currently on the paint? I'm hoping it does, I didn't feel I needed to buy #2 the polish, the finish is in pretty good shape and it's white. The bottle mentions it's most beneficial to darker colors.

I'm going to try a different wax so I'm just wondering if #1 will remove it for me or I really have to use some polish.

    Hi DS9,

Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is a very gentle, chemical only paint cleaner. That said, together with your application material and some elbow grease, it should remove most of the wax on your car's paint.

      You're on the right track!

Don't use Dawn dishwashing liquid that is promoted by so many people on other car care forums.

Some words of wisdom I picked up from a very experienced and well respected Meguiar's forum member:

"First rule of detailing. Always move forward! Using a harsh soap to remove old wax is a backwards step. Using a good polish to remove old wax is a step forward" - ScottWax

      Makes incredible sense to me!
A great finish begins with the right start!

I used DC cleaner last weekend to take off old wax (rather than a Dawn wash, which I briefly considered) and it did a great job. Cleaned it right down to the squeaky surface, applied and removed by terry towel.

Next time I'm going to try MPPC for the same purpose, I assume it's just as gentle as the DC1?

          Hi Cam,

MPPC is quite a bit more aggressive as it contains both diminishing abrasives and chemical cleaners.

Is MPPC abrasive enough that I shouldn't be using it every time I wax? Or would DC1 or Body Scrub be a better choice for that? I'm working by hand, but plan to go to PC soon...

Technically, before choosing the products you need for your car's finish, you evaluate the finish. It could be that you don't need a dedicated paint cleaner. If your surface evaluation tells you that you need to clean the paint, then you would use a paint cleaner following Meguiar's philosophy,

Always use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

Hopefully, you will be able to clean your paint and restore a like new, or better than new finish, using Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner. If not, then you could substitute a more aggressive product such as ScratchX or Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner, or Meguiar's Clear Coat Body Scrub.

To answer your question specifically, MPPC is not so aggressive that you need to worry about using it often. It is a light cleaner, not a heavy cutting compound.

Thanks Mike. I agree with the 'least aggressive product necessary' philosophy, and I'll be using #80 and possibly #83 when necessary to keep the paint in good shape.

But between uses of more abrasive products, I'm just trying to figure out the safest way to clean off old wax before I apply polish (#81) and fresh wax (#16 or #26). Since the DC1 did just what I wanted, I suppose there's no need to use anything else!

                Thanks again for your help!

I'm not sure why, but I always like the way it smells?
