Of course, you can vary the aggressiveness of each step, by pad and product selection. So the rotary with #82 on a finishing pad, would be less aggressive than the PC with #83 on a polishing pad, and probably even less aggressive than ScratchX by hand..

If you are asking this question to try and adhere to the Meg's moto of "use the least aggresive product" then you are pretty close. However, if you have a DA then their is no reason you should do the whole car by hand just to try and use the least aggresive method. Instead, use the least aggresive product you can WITH the DA. For example, I almost always start with 80 and a DA. It's pretty rare to have a car that doesn't need 80. If you don't have any defects in the paint (swirls, etc.) and you just want to shine it up and protect it, I would still use something to clean the paint with first. Something along the lines of DC1. Follow with your favorite polish. And finally finish with 2 coats of whatever wax you choose. If you are looking for a one step process, then try #66 in the professional line. If you are using the consumer line then NXT or GC both work great!
It's all about using the least aggresive method with the tools you have, be it a rotary, DA, or your hands.
