  • Clay and Tree Sap

I know there have been a lot of threads about this already but I didn't see anything about moving up the grade of clay.

I have tree sap that has baked in for a few yrs now. Clay from the Smooth clay kit isn't working, should I start using the more aggressive "Mild" clay (I think it's more aggressive)? Or should I even try the "Aggressive Clay". I am not a clay expert so I am a bit afraid of that one.

I have never removed tree sap that has been caked on for years but I don't think that the mild clay is going to cut it. If you plan on using the aggresive clay then you have to buff the car afterwards.

I would try the Gold Class Bug an Tar remover. If that doesn't work then I guess you have to move up to Goo Gone which is also quite aggresive.

      Hi Bengelfang,

I had great success on my sister-in-laws Volvo with the standard Quik Clay system. Sap had been baked on for a few months. Had to make a few passes and used a whole clay bar on hood, roof and trunk but did the trick (will try and dig out a pic)

We have been having Florida like temperatures and humidity last few days and i was thinking driving home from work, whether that would effect removing surface contaminants?

      Good luck

You might want to try Megs Body Solvent before you try the aggressive clay.

        body solvent

The Aggressive clay can mar your paint.

You might also look for DuPont's Prepsol if you can't find the Body Solvent. Both should be applied and left for several minutes to dissolve the sap.

Thanks guys! I have Goo Gone already. I'll try that and also order some Body Solvent from ADS. Doing a huge order including the G100a from them this weekend.

You might want to get the Mike Phillips PC video as well. I read everything I could and looked at all the pictures, but seeing him actually using the machine was a whole lot better.
