I just recently purchased one of the "new" smooth surface kits. While on the topic of storing clay, I really like the new clay container that comes with (looks like the plastic bar of soap travel storage devices).

Hi there, I've not done any claying before, but I am curious why QD is difficutl to wipe off. Does it dry up fast, or due to some other reason?

As a general rule, the following would be the correct steps?

      1) Wash
      2) Dry
      3) Prep - a) Clay
      b) Paint Cleaner / Scratch X (where necessary)
      4) Polish
      5) Wax

      Thanks for your time

QD is not difficult to wipe off. I use a few microfiber towels. I clay an area about 2'x2' and then wipe with a MF towel. Done. One or two swipes is all you need. Remember, you don't need to polish this stuff. If you miss anything it will be removed in the polishing or waxing step anyway.

I like QD because it has more lubricity than a car wash. Therefore there is less chance of scratching when drawing the clay and the contaminants it is removing over your paint.

I like to be extra careful with anything that touches my paint. I use the best wash mitts, the best micro-fibers, etc. so why would I want to go cheapo and use an inferior product to clay when QD is so cheap?

Well, to each his own...perhaps those who do use car wash find that it serves their needs. I have no problem with that....

About applying the wax, how will I know I have let the wax set for too long when I do the swipe test? Also, for the swipe test, I should be using minimal finger strength, correct? Perhaps, even a lighter touch than what was used during the claying process?

While on the topic of clay, can I also use NXT Speed Detailer as lube for clay.

After all, its a product similar to QD.
