  • MeQuiars Can Paste Wax Leaves Streaks

Can someone tell me why the Can Paste wax we used (MeQuiars) high tech (new product) left streaks in the paint?

The color of the car is black.
We used a brand new applicator.
applied thin even coats onto the surface.
    Let the wax dry.

When we buffed it out by hand, we noticed in certain light and angels, that there were light and dark streaks.

We had to rub harder to get them out and some didn't come out.

Also, the wax that we rub out became hard and a lot of white speakles of wax became very messy and was all over the place.

I normally don't use can paste, perfer the liquid, but the guy at the detail store said that the can paste was much more superior over the liquid.

Can someone help educate me on what happened????

    thanks

You mean the NXT paste, right?

I used it the first time I waxed my new car. Thought I was putting on a thin coat, but I must not have been because it was very, VERY difficult to remove and the amount of "flaking" was horrible. I did not have any streaks though, so I don't know about that part......

I've considered giving NXT another try (I've become a little better at waxing since then, as I've since tried ColorX/GC/and QD spray wax)......but the first experience was quite bad and I haven't been courageous enough to try the product again. Like I said, I'm sure it was because I put it on too thick. My car is crimson red, and I do everything by hand.

What condition is the paint in?

Streaking usually is the result of too much wax applied, not enough time allowed for the wax to dry, or the paint needs to be clayed and/or cleaned with a paint cleaner first.

These are just some common variables.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.

Yes it was a can of NXT.

The car paint is in oustanding condition, Black Corvett with only 5,000 miles.

A fairly thin to medium coat was applied. Two of us were doing the car.

The car was washed with your car wash product and only needed to clay bar bottom fenders near the wheel wells. The rest of the car is in perfect condition.

If we may have put too much of a coat of wax, what do we do to get the ghost streaks out? Wash the car to remove the wax and start all over? .... I bet we do.

Let me know what you think.

        Thanks,
        Manny

These are thin layers (and with certain products you should go even thinner):

Any thicker application is just wasteful, because only the direct contact layer bonds to the paint. The remaining wax dries out, and makes the removal difficult. Why waste?
A "fairly thin to medium" layer is WAY too thick. NXT is basically a no-effort product; it has to come off sooo easy.

Washing is one option, no question. But I recommend more setup time, thinner layers and a QD to remove the streaks. Alternatively, you can also dampen a towel with QD, wipe the area, then follow with a dry towel.
