My car is in the shop because my rear bumper needs replacing. I was given a Dodge Charger. It wasn't very clean and had tons of swirls that were visible through the dirt. I was embarrassed driving it yesterday. Last night I barely beat the urge to detail it. Thankfully it was about 90 degrees here, so I stopped myself. Instead, I did what I would never do with my car: I used a spray wax to clean it and protect it (no washing first). At least it shines now. I really don't think I contributed to much more swirling. Just goes to show you what crappy washes will do to a paint job. It has 12k miles and the swirls are horrible.

Heh heh, black rent-a-Suburban last spring while the MPV was in the shop- many hours with the rotary before I switched to the PC/#80, topped with #16. Had the thing for over a month so it was worth it to have the sharpest looking Suburban in town.
This year I did a full detail on my mechanic's 230K mile '90 Benz, even did the undercarriage and engine compartment and did a proper job on the interior for what must've been the first time in years. Now I don't want to give it backbut since I got my car back from him a few weeks ago I suspect he's wondering when I'll be done with it

Ha. Thankfully, my car gets returned tomorrow and I don't have to look at the swirls any longer. I don't even think they can be considered "swirls". They are more like someone used steel wool to scrub the car clean. I've spray waxed it twice now and it actually shines (from a distance). They won't know what happened to it when they get it back - water will actually bead!

Yeah I took my MINI in for servicing, and they were going to give me a Cooper Convertible as a loaner. They originally promised me the Supercharged MCS hardtop. Because I have a kid, the convertible isn't kid friendly, so I wanted that hardtop.
When I asked about the MCS, they said it was dirty and would be hours before it was washed and I could drive it. I said no problem, I'll wash it if you give it to me now.
So what happens when a Car Crazy guy whose obsessed with MINI's, drops off his own MINI for servicing, and takes home a dirty MINI loaner? You get a super shiny loaner car for the next lucky person! When I arrived, everybody was feeling the paint and running out in groups to touch it. It was pretty funny.Last edited by OctaneGuy; Jul 19, 2006, 01:56 PM.
