  • #7 Question

I am really debating buying this. I am used to DC2, but my question is...

Why do people say it is so hard to use? I do all my stuff by hand, and I keep hearing that it is hard to use. why is that?

People that say it's hard to use are very likely using it wrong. In most cases I'd say they are making these mistakes, some or all of them.

Applying to the wrong surface, as in dirt or neglected paint. #7 is a pure polish and in most situations should only be applied to paint that is new or has been pre-cleaned.

Applying too much product. Thick coats of any paint care product justs wastes product and makes removal difficult.

Allowing the product to dry. The only products in the Meguiar's line that need to dry are our waxes, everything else is a wipe-on, wipe off, or wipe on, work-in and then wipe-off type product.

I personally don't have any problems applying and removing #7 because I only apply it to the correct surface, I apply a thin coat, and I wipe it off before it dries.

It's a cool product, I'd highly recommend at least trying it.

Hundreds of thousands, and actually more likely millions of serious enthusiasts over 5-6 generations can't be wrong, maybe longer?

Thanks Mike!! I clayed my 2003 toyota last month, used DC1, DC2, and NXT paste. and keep in mind washed once a week(its driven once a week, and kept in a garage). So my paint seems to fit #7.

I am gonna buy this and try it out sometime this month or next

      Thanks again

Mike, after closely looking at the above picture, I have a question about #7.

I noticed that the first 3 bottles in the pic are labeled "sealer and resealer glaze". The fourth mentions that although a new name has been applied, the product is still the same.

My question is: Has Meguiars product terminology changed over the years? #7 is a pure polish with no implied protective qualities, but it would seem that it's previous name qould suggest otherwise. Or has #7 changed over the years, from a sealer/glaze combo to the pure polish that it is labeled as now??

          Very interesting.

#7 gives a black car that deep, wet look. As Mike said, if you do what he suggested, it is very easy. I also use it by hand. Do not let it dry!

#7 is a great product -- i've been using it on my truck since it was new -- i let it set on the surface alittle while (15-20mins) instead of the wowo technique -- but it is no problem to remove -- i always apply #12 cleaner wax before i apply #7 -- followed by nxt liquid tech wax then #21 -- all of this is done by hand -- my paint looks spectacular -- good luck -- GBY!

I also have one other question.

I recently (1.5months ago), Washed,Clayed,DC1,DC2,and NXT waxed my car. The car has been driven about 10miles since, and washed a few times inbetween. Since I just detailed it, and still has wax on it, can I: Wash, #7, GC wax it?

                  thanks in advance

The name change was done to try to avoid confusion as many products were coming onto the market referred to as a paint sealant and some people thought the word "sealer" meant they were using a paint sealant and this could lead to false expectations.

The product was renamed to more accurately describe what the product does and what it is used for.

Somewhere on this forum I have actually explained this very thoroughly, it would take some keen searching with some key words to find it.

And to remove the M07, use a real soft 100% cotton terry cloth like the Gold Class Ultra Soft Super Terry...

And once you have finished applying the product, use the cloth to remove it, starting from the point you first started. Do not worry if if it came out streaky the first time. Go over over the whole car first and go over it again one more time, and be sure to turn over the cloth to a cleaner side....

                        Right, Mike?

                            Ok, thanks Mike.

I just like to learn about historical progression of very popular American products. Within the detailing community, #07 is a staple for those car-show enthusiasts who are in the know.

It's also interesting to see how the terminology and definitions recieve new meanings throughout the progression of time.

                              *Another quick question*

What is the best wax to top #7 off with? Would GC or NXT work? Do either of those waxes have cleaners in them that would take some of the shine away?
