  • Paging Mike Phillips Need Help

Today I polished my black ranger with Rotary and polishing pad using M80 it slung product everywhere. I wiped it off the paint ok but the Truck bed has a vinyl cover on it and the 80 made little white spots all over it.
This is what I have used and the order that I used it.

    Plain water and MF towel
Water with a lot of soap added with MF towel
Water with soap and stiff brush
    Windex
    Megs. quick interior detailer
    Megs. QD
    Aerospace 303
    91.% medical grade isopropyl alcohol
None of the above removed the M80.
The soap water and stiff brush got a little of it but not much.
Just paid $ 400.00 for the cover it is almost new. anyway to remove the M80 without destroying the vinyl cover

or APC? even Goo Gone could be worth trying if you have it there, so you dont let the polish sit too long.

Although it's kind of pointless now, if it were me I would have placed a soft bed sheet over the cover and taped the edges down and/or placed something on the bed sheet like a clean floor mat to help hold it in place.

Then after the detail work, wash the bed sheet and save it for another day.

If I were in your shoes right now, here's what I would do, although M39 Vinyl Cleaner is a great cleaner, I would try M40 Rubber/Vinyl Cleaner & Conditioner on it first with something like a wash rag.

The M40 has a light cleaner in it and together with the gentle scrubbing action of the wash rag and your careful hand, you should be able to clean and condition the vinyl top and in the process remove most of these splatter drops.

That's what I would try. If that doesn't work you could use straight M39. I'm surprised water and wash soap didn't do a better job as the M80 Speed Glaze is water based. The problem you're working against is surface tension where the splatter drop is stuck on the vinyl and because it's small you can't --> easily <-- get leverage over it to push or scrub it off.

I will give the $ 40 a try I have that on hand. While I was waiting for your reply I went over it again with the stiff brush and soap water and after some scrubbing I got some more off or at least it looked like I did but it is hard to tell when wet. I will check it when it drys and use the #40. I don't have #39
I was thinking of trying Bon-ami it is abrasive but it may have chemicals that would harm the vinyl
Well at least something went right the truch looks awesome if I can get the cover cleaned then I have to put on the LSP
            THANKS Bart

don't use the Bon Ami, it will likely dull the vinyl down.

You want to take these little dots off carefully so you don't hurt the vinyl.

Looks like I got it. The last time with the brush and soap water I stayed with it longer and when it dried it looked like the little dots were gone but was a grayish black color.
I applied a coat of #40 and it is looking pretty good but not what I want so in the morning I will give it another coat of 40.
Thanks guy's looks like I'm ready to put on the sealant
All is well that ends well.
