  • bird droppings protectant.

The worsest problem that I have with my finish is bird droppings. I also have a problem with tree sap, but not as bad as birds. Someone recommended me before to use Polymer Sealant #20 to create a durable coat. So I did, then I applied a coat of Professional paste wax #16. I usually use quick detailer to get rid of droppings as soon as I see one. My question is - for how long will Polymer Sealant last??? And does anybody know how good Medallion Premium protection is??? My car is white 2000 Acura TL.

      Hey,

I would recommend that you continue to use #20 or MPPP fairly regularily as bird droppings can etch the paint quite easily. No product can protect it 100%. But I have had great luck over the years using these products. Just remember to remove the droppings with a MF and a QD spray as soon as possible.

I'll back up what Tim said, no product is going to offer 100% protection from the acids found in bird droppings. The most you can hope for is that it will slow down the corrosive effect until you can remove it.

which coat will be more durable? Medallion Premium Paint Protection with MiraBenz ( I like the word Benz, it reminds me of Mercedes Benz, my favorite car) or Polymer Sealant #20? What do you think, Mike? Or a coat of PS#20 and a coat of MPPP on a top of it will even give a better protection? And how long will it last in CA climate?

Applying a coat of either #20 Polymer Sealant or NXT High Tech Wax at least once every three months will offer you very good protection. However, in order to greatly reduce the chance of the acids etching your finish you must remove the bird dropping as soon as possible. Time is the key factor.

In most cases, almost no surface etching will be visible if the bird dropping is removed within minutes or a few hours. Not days or weeks. And you could use plain water and a soft tissue for this purpose. Simply pour a little water on the bird dropping, wait until soft and gently wipe away. When possible, apply another coat of wax to affected area. Time is the key factor.

              Hey,

I am not Mike, but I will try to answer this if that is OK.

Until Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax came out, MPPP was Meguiar's most durable sealant. However, with the said, I have used for YEARS #20 topped with #26. You can also obtain a similar look with MPPP topped with #16 Paste Wax. Regardless, you will need to apply the polymer on a regular basis.

Let me add a plug for NXT Tech Wax here.

I used to work in downtown Milwaukee, a couple blocks from Lake Michigan and on the Milwaukee river. My car was parked in an outdoor municipal lot that was frequented by hundreds of seagulls every day. The NXT Tech wax offered a much greater level of protection than any other product I have used. I still would go out and QD any droppings twice a day but there was never any damage after switching to NXT.
