  • Possible battery acid on paint

    Hello all,

I may have had battery acid splash on the hood of my vehicle, but I’m not sure. There’s a long story as to why, but I’ll spare everyone the details. In short, my vehicle was detailed and a few days later I found what looked like motor oil on the hood and front windshield. I wiped it off with a damp cloth and thought nothing of it. I discovered a few days later that it might have been battery acid, so I immediately washed my vehicle. I did notice weird imperfections in the paint that looked like streak marks. I’m thinking if it really was battery acid, it may be from when I wiped it off with the cloth. A friend advised me that battery acid would slowly eat away at the paint even if washed off. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what I may use to prevent this if it is indeed battery acid? I already tried the Techwax to get the steaks out with no luck. I do have the clay bar, which I will be using soon. I’m not too worried about the existing streaks as they are not that noticeable, but I’m worried about the possible long term effects if it was battery acid. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Verify with someone more knowledgable. I believe Tonic water and /or a mix of water with baking soda will neutralize the acid.

Also, you said oil. Might it be degreaser? Was the car in the mechanic< I ask, since the degreaser **** happened to me after a mechanic's visit... on a white car!

    Regards,

    Jorge
