  • Lifespan of 8006 foam polishing pads

How long do I keep using these? I've done 3 cars with one pad using #83 (OK, one "car" was an Expedition) and the pad is rather concave in the center, presumably from pressure in polishing. Is it OK to keep using it until it starts to fragment or is it time to move on to a new pad?

    Hey,

Unless the pad is coming apart or has been torn, the pad will be fine. It will also go flat again the next time you use it.

I have used one a dozen times or more now with out any problems, and wash by hand from time to time.

I have 17 6.5" pads. They've been cleaned and reused countless times, maybe 30, who knows? If your 'just' an enthusiast, your pads should last for a very long time!

If your 'just' an enthusiast, Gosh, I hope everyone took that the right way! After today's 14 hours ($650!), I really can't think straight...

Thanks for the input, guys! That's what I figured.

No offense taken, JB. I'm happy to be "just an enthusiast." 14 hours of detailing and I'd never walk again! (BTW, being a Parrothead and all, I love your screen name!)

What did today's work consist of?
An 04 VW Touareg - just clay, wash, vac, NXT (extraordinary fit and finish! Cayenne chassis and Audi S8 engine!) 2hrs

97 Accord, complete. 67K but a teenager's car, interior took an extaordinary amount of time. 7hrs

97 Jeep Cherokee- new to this owner - hood required DEEP cutting (probably should've wet sanded) Looks pretty good, owner will be astounded. 9 hrs

01 Porsche Carrera 2 Cabriolet, Black. Complete detail, minor swirls, issues with the plastic window (buffed #10 & #17)) Klasse Twins and #26. 7 hrs.

I have an assistant, who gets to go home early, and the Porsche owner couldn't get here until 9:30...

Long day, to say the least.

Wow! Fantastic! I would call you a detailing 'machine'!

How did you do that in merely 2 hrs? I spend almost 1.5 hrs just on washing, drying and quick detailing, excluding interior vac and wiping! I need to learn from you so that I could do things faster...

The VW is only 6 months old, the interior was really quite quick... I only clayed the hood (<15 minutes)... The wash/ wax took about 1 1/2 hour.

Quick? Well, the shop is well organized, and everything is at hand... Frankly, I think we need to be faster!

                    Time is money!

If everything is at hand, it saves alot of time. It always takes me 3-5 minutes to setup the hose/nozzle, 5-7 minutes to setup the vacuum cleaner, etc...all add up to be 20-25 minutes! How I wish I have a permanent garage.
