  • **NEVER WAXED! How Much Do I Apply? HELP!**

I have never waxed! I bought the deep crystal system but don't know how to wax. What is curing? I tried to put on some wax and had read that you are supposed to let it dry and come back later to see if it smears or is "hazy" but nothing wiped off and it wasnt any shinier. Did I use too little? How much are you supposed to use per square foot? Please reply in detail because I totally dont know what i am doing. IM LOST!
If it helps I own an old Silver passat. PLEASE HELP!

Dont worry... First a couple questions..

Did you buy just the Deep Crystal (DC) Wax, or did you buy all 3 steps, including the cleaner and polish?

What did you apply the wax with? Were you able to see a layer of wax when you applied it?

There is a difference between drying and curing, but dont even worry about that for now. After you apply a wax, you should be able to see a whitish film form over the surface of your car after 10-15 minutes. This is the film that you are supposed to buff off.

However, DC Wax is a pure wax. That means that it needs the surface to be prepared before applying the wax. You may have noticed that the wax says step 3 on it. Doing step 1 and 2 first will clean and prepare the surface for the wax.

Here are 2 basic process that you could follow:

    1. Wash - Use a qualit ywash like Gold Class or Nxt Wash.

    2. Clay - While optional, it is really a great thing ot learn how t odo. You would want to purchase a Smooth Surface Clay kit.

    3. Clean - Deep Crystal Step 1 Cleaner

    4. Polish - Deep Crystal Step 2 Polish

    5. Wax - Deep Crystal Step 3 Wax

Or, you could do this shorter routine:

    1. Wash - as above

    2. Clay - as above

    3. ColorX

    4. Wax - Deep Crystal Step 3 Wax

Yes , I bought the whole 3 step system.

I washed my car with deep crystal car wash and a meguiars deep pile chenille wash mit drying with their super terry towels.
Then I used your quik clay, step 1 and step 2 and they were all easy to apply and worked as the directions on them said, and I was very happy with those products.
        But then the wax...
I was able to see small streaks as I rub it around until they were gone and then i stopped applying it. I came back 15 minutes later and heard i was supposed to"buff" it off and so i tried the swipe test and nothing came off or smeared and no haze. Afterwards no real extroardinary shine. I have a feeling i am applying too little? What happens when you apply too little?

          Hi Andrew,

          Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Read through this thread as it will go over a multi-step process. Forget that the thread is about removing swirls by hand because even if you're not trying to remove swirls but your going to use a paint cleaner, a pure polish and a wax, the process is the same.

I have to go offline to teach a class at Meguiar's today, when I get back online either later tonight, or early Sunday morning before church I'll find this thread and try to answer any more questions you have.

          Read through this...

Thanks, that helped me understand a little better.
In one of the pictures it shows You with the polish on your applicator. Is that also the amount of cleaner and wax I am supposed to apply to an equal sized area? There are no pictures of the products dry or applied, just wiping on and wiping off. After applying on the liquid wax am I supposed to rub it in until I can't see it or am I supposed to be able to see a layer of it?

-Remember I have neither waxed nor seen someone in person wax their car.

Alright, I went out today and tried applying the wax again. This time I used more and tried leaving it so that i could see a layer of wax on the paint. I came back 10 minutes later and I finally have "haze". I buffed it off and it was a little shinier but not amazing. Did I do this right or should I use more still?
