  • scratch test for MF towels etc??? Mike?

just looking for input here on how to test various MF towels and applicators to see if they mark the paint at all

ive seen it mentioned before that rubbing a new cd is a good indicator of how kind the towel is on paint? is it? are cd's a similar hardeness to automobile paint ?

anyway for some reason my car is getting more haze and swirls than id like, so im going to re think my wash and wax routine to try to avoid them

i tested the following items on a new cd in the sun

    megs gc applicator..no marks
    sonus mf applicator ..no marks
    absorber...no marks
various no name reasonble quality mf's ...little /no marks
    megs supreme shine towels...marks
    megs water magnet..slight marks
    cheapie synthectic chamois..plenty of marks

now i look after my towels and store them away from dirt, never been washed with a softener ,what can i do to find out what towels are safe and whats not safe?

i havent come on here to bad mouth megs towels..i know heaps of people use them and i always thought they were much plusher than others..but i cant use stuff thats marking my paint

    any suggestions?

You know I see this stuff all over other forums and no one ever points out that CD's are not paint?

When I wipe the wax off a car like the one below using both Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber polishing cloths and bonnets, I'm confident the polishing material is gentle the the finish and it's protecting and revealing the hard work I've done.

Remember, no matter how AR people get on other forums, sooner or later... you have to touch the paint with something. How AR do you want to get?

Wiped the polish and wax off this original clear coat paint from 1982 without scratching it before the car went on display... no problems...

Same thing with this single stage black paint...

do you have any suggestions how i can work through my detailing supplys to try and find where im going wrong?

im sure i should be able to do better than i am...ive now pc'd the car for the 3rd time this year..which i feel is a little too often

my typical wash routine would be

rinse car with a heavy flow to try and flush the worst dust off

soap up with nxt or gold class wash and a lambs wool mitt..2 buckets used

rinse with a good flow..and then use the open hose to try and make the car self dry

        dry with a waffle weave

the only other thing i can think thats differant is maybe i have paint thats super easy to mark?? how would i figure if it marks easier than most
