  • wax job looks awfull after rain/wet?

ive been having this issue for some time now..i used to think it was just after washing and put it down the fact we must have bad water in our area

but yesterday i washed the car, used #7 and then half a sample sachet of megs gold class, finished up and the car looked great, nice clear wet looking shine. then that night we got rain, so the car got wet and was left to air dry ...today i catch sight of my hood in the strong midday sun and it looks all smeary and hazy , much like id expect if you used a dirty old to buff up the car

i have the exact same thing after washing with megs gold class or nxt wash and drying with a water magnet

a quick wipe around with a mf and quick detailer brings it back to just waxed look

ive had the same problem with other waxes (p21s) so i figure its something im doing wrong and not the products

any ideas?? seems to me theres some kind of wax residue left behind and the water hazes it over

In my humble opinion.. there was still some reisdue from the Meguiar's #7 glaze on the finish. #7 is finicky.. it has to be completely buffed prior to adding your LSP.

It could be due to the fact that the wax did not have enough time to "set up" and when it got rained on, it ruined the whole process.
Also, anytime that rain water air dries on a vehicle, you are going to have issues.

i agree that on that occasion the wax probably could have have sat longer to set up fully, but ive had the same issue when the wax job has set up and then i wash days later

could this happen if theres simply too much wax on the paint? or maybe 2 brands that wont work together?

Or like Gonzo suggests, that there is too much residue left from the #7. Sounds like the LSP has trouble bonding.

You could try not using a glaze, and let the LSP set up for at least 12 hours, before letting it get wet. Just to see if you still have the issue then.

Just to check - you are't using a QD shortly after waxing, right?

              Thx

Well, the QD could interfere with the bonding process of the LSP if used too soon. Mike stated somewhere that many people keep buffing the LSP, trying to achive a higher shine, which has the unfavorable side effect of disturbing the polymers (and stuff )from properly setting up. His advice was too buff of the wax, and then leave it to cure.
