  • Clay and wax removal

I just put on ColorX and GC last weekend. The complex bumped half of us out of our carports two days ago, to reseal the parking lot. I got stuck parking under a tree and have some very obvious tree sap spots on the car now.

Going to wash car tonight. My question is: If I use clay only on the areas of sap, how much of last weekends wax job is going to be removed by claying...a little/alot/all of it?

If you have a fresh coat of wax on the car, I would try and get the sap off by just washing it. You might be surprised at how easy it comes off. If in fact washing it doesn't get the sap off, I would rewax any area you use clay on. Its hard to say how much wax the clay will take off, could be some, could be all. To be safe I would definitely throw on another coat of Wax/Sealant.

Yeah, I'm hoping it just comes off when I wash........it's just that I'm not normally a lucky person, especially when it comes to this car lately! Before August's wax job, I plan to clay the entire car for the first time.....so I really hope this sap just comes off while washing it tonight.

        Wax vs. clay depends on:

        -How aggressive the clay is
-How aggressive your claying technique is

It seems that most people clay so aggressively that they take off a lot of LSP, and you might have to be that aggressive to remove the sap. Just try to clay as gently as possible, while still being effective, and see if you need to redo the LSP.
