  • Pad and product selction

I mentioned in an earlier post I had worked in a shop through college. I run a small business on the side and currently use 3m rub it II and swirl mark remover. I do however use the tech wax by Meguiars. I am looking to take it to the next level. I am hoping when I retire in 18 years to have my business booming. I am 27 and can retire with a pension in 18 years and hope to only work for myself. Mine as well build the business up now.

Now as far as product selection there was just too many. I have read numerous times and I am still confused. There is so much.

My personal vehicle is a black 05 explorer with a V8. Paint was a little rough but I used a one step polish from my local detail supplier, then the tech wax, and then the number 16 paste wax. Water runs right off and color is still deep.

In the shop I worked in we would compound with a wool pad, swirl mark remover with a foam pad and wipe down with final inspection. I want to take it a step further and get that Ultimate shine on my own and customer cars.

I found the pad selction for the product breakdown. could someone give me some good product combinations to use. For darker and lighter vehicles, start to finish. I also have a clay bar. mildly abrasive but cleans paint nice. When lubed good it does not scratch. Even personal reccomendations on pads.

By the way I am using a Dewalt high speed buffer, varialbe trigger speed with handle placement on either side. I can use wool or foam with it. I dont have a g100 or PC and dont really have an interest as I see some product works better with certain machines.

Also the tech wax. Is that your final coat as it seems to lose its protection after a month or so.

I have turned some toilets in to gems in the past so I can use the buffer but a lot has changed in the past few years and I have been out of the game as far as new products go.

I hope this isnt too much info and may seem confusing. Probably because I am confused on the products. It seems that everyone finished with the tech wax though.

I have done one step buff jobs with a strictly polish because that is all that people wanted to pay for. I used a wool pad and never left marks but it would put the color back in like crazy. I think it was phaze glaze so if anyone knows something similar in the Meguiars line please let me know.

Think I got it all for now. Thank you.
