  • Montan wax better than Carnuba wax?

Hey guys IBIZ wax contains Montan Wax, which they say is better than Carnuaba wax. Is this true???

    Taken from http://www.waxdirect.com/faq.htm
Yes, Montan wax is fossilized, 25- to 50-million-year-old carnauba wax. Montan has a higher melting point than carnauba, therefore giving you better product durability.
    Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montan_wax
Properteis: Its color ranges from dark brown to light yellow when crude, or white when refined. Its composition is non-glyceride long-chain (C24-C30) carboxylic acid esters (62-68 weight %), free long-chain organic acids (22-26%), long-chain alcohols, ketones and hydrocarbons (7-15%) and resins; it is in effect a fossilized plant wax. Its melting point is 79-90 °C.

Montan is one of numerous base waxes commonly available to manufacturers. There's nothing unusual about it. The Wikipedia entry says "About a third of total world production is used in car polishes." Doesn't sound like any big secret to me (unless IBIZ is secretly selling an awful lot of wax).

Melting temp is only one of many material characteristics, physical and chemical, not the end-all, be-all. Note that Meguiar's calls their waxes blended rather than pure this or that. They do that because each ingredient brings something to the party and by blending them skillfully the combination works better than any one part.

I don't know anything about this product specifically. It may be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just reading their ad copy sounds like any other me-too product trying to differentiate an utterly ordinary offering with marketing hype. Sorry, but I'm naturally skeptical.
