  • #26 vs. #16

I went to my local PBE today to look for #80 and to my surprise, I found a can of #16 which has been discontinued. I asked if it was the last one and the guy said yes so I bought it. I recently read a post on here where a few people were going through withdrawals not having #16 readily available. A few questions:

--(Mike, chime in if you can) Besides #26 not being combustible and having phosphorous or whatever, do the two perform the same side by side or is #26 an improved formulation performance wise (not necessarily to get VOC compliant)?

--I also read on the thread that some people found it difficult to remove. I applied it very thin and would have to agree in comparison to Natty's Blue. I applied both to either side of my hood (black acura rsx type-s) and the Natty's came off much easier. Aesthetically speaking, I could not see one looking better and they felt the same. It did rain today, so I will observe beeding.

--The #26 that was at the shop was an older can (they had the new one too) and I just like the look of "grandpa's car wax" type of old-school packaging. With that said, I will go and get #26 depending on the feedback I get--mainly if it can be removed easier than #16 and is as durable. If anyone wants to buy the tin, let me know and what to want to pay (w/shipping).

This is what I have noticed in reguards to #16, #26, and (sinced you referanced it) Natty's Blue. If #16 is wiping off with dificulty, it is still being applied too thick. When I apply #16 I spread it out until I can barely, and I mean barely, see the any smear of wax on the paint. If you can clearly see the wax on the paint, it is still too thick. This was the hardest thing for me to learn about #16. When applying wax this thin, #16, #26, and Natty's Blue will wipe off with the same amount of ease. If you apply them thick, #26 will be about the same as Natty's as far as removal.
What I have noticed about the differance between #16, and #26 is that #16 has a clear, glossy look to it while #26 has a slightly darker appearance to it. If your car has a metallic paint, you may notice the metal flake more when using #16 than when using #26. But looks are very subjective and not everyone sees things the same.
As far as durability goes, I have not left #26 go until it was gone. Where I live I do get about 10 weeks from #16 and 8 weeks from Natty's Blue if that will be of any help to you. Differant environments will produce differant durability results also.
Whether I use #16 or #26 often depends on if I want a darker or clearer appearance on the paint.
    I hope this helps somewhat.

that's an interesting product comparison observation. based soley on what you said, i would prefer #26 because I want dark and wet.

I have used both #16 and #26. I sure liked them when that was all that was available for the true "car nut" However, recently I have been asking myself "why?" when I tihink of applying either one. (I have two unopened cans of #16 on hand.) I end up reaching for the ColorX or NXT instead. Must be geiting lazy (or just smart) in my old age.
