Is there a proper technique for buffing wax off of a car after you apply it?

I think I may be rubbing too hard.

    2 cases.

Last fall I applied the Deep Crystal Polish on the the roof of my car. after the first swipe rubbing off the hazed wax it left a beautiful deep watery gloss appearance. But after the 3rd or 5th swipe it seemed like I wiped that gloss right off and the orginal paint color came back.

2nd case example. Last night I was putting on some NXT wax. Layed it on, waited about 30 minutes then wiped it off. It was getting dark and it was hard to see plus it was very humid outside, that did not help my cause either.

This morning I went to work and in the day light I saw this beautiful dark color over the roof of my car, but I could also see lines of the orginal color under that deep gloss from where I may have pushed to hard in wiping it off.

What am I doing wrong? Do you have to be very gentle when removing wax?

if you apply a very thin and even layer , you should find it wipes off very easy in one or two gentle passes

its usualy the fact people put it on a little too thick , and then suffer when it comes to removal

try and do it when its not getting damp at night too...and do you use good quality mf towels??

First case: The DC Polish is not a wax, so I'd imagine that if you kept wiping it, you could take most of it off. It's meant to followed by a wax for protection.

Second case: It might very well be that you have put it on too thick, this would also increase the cure time. The lines might be places where the NXT had not fully cured, and therefore was wiped off. Also make sure the paint is absolutely clean before applying the NXT. Oh yeah, low light and high humidity probably didn't improve the result either

BTW, read this if you haven't: Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle
