  • Hello! Want to detail my car the right way - NXT.

Hi, this is my first post, and I've never used Meguiar's before. I've always been a car guy, but could never afford a real decent car, so I never took terrific care of them.

Well, I just bought a 2006 Charger R/T and I'm holding on to this baby for a loooong time.

I went to Summit yesterday (I live like two miles away ) and picked up the following:

    NXT Tech Wax (Liquid bottle)
    NXT Car Wash
    NXT Interior Quik Detailer
    Gold Class All Wheel cleaner
    Hot Shine tire dressing

And some microfibre towels, a California drying blade, another brand of glass cleaner.

    Anyway, on to my question:
My car had a good factory shine to it, and I noticed the water beads up pretty well:

Should I wait until the factory wax goes away before applying the NXT wax? Should I claybar it off, and then do the NXT wax? Or should I just spray on the NXT as a secondary coat? Being that it's a silicon-based wax, and the factory is an unknown, I am unsure what to do.

    Thanks!

I personally would not clay the car as its simply not needed. BUT, it will not hurt to do so. Since its brand new, I would use a simple polish like DC#2, and follow it up with a coat of wax (or two).

So if you have time, clay it, but you prob wont notice a diff with your finish since its so new.

    PS: Nice car!

You mention picking up the Nxt Liquid Bottle, but spraying it on? Did you pick up the Nxt Spray Wax, or just the liquid version of the Nxt Wax.

It is important to note that a spray wax is just for a quick touch-up after washing, not an actual coat of wax.

I would certainly clay the car. Try and can get your hands on a Smooth Surface Clay kit.

Personaly, I would do this at least:

      1. Wash - Nxt is good. And remember to start off right with the 2-bucket system, and buy 2 Grit Guards as soon as possible.

      2. Clay

      3. Cleaner/wax - A sample comes in the S.S. Clay Kit. Though I use ColorX.

      4. Wax - Nxt Wax is good.

But definately keep posting any questions...

Is "DC#2" the same as "Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner"?

I didn't mean to say "spray it on". I got the liquid bottle of NXT Tech Wax, not a quick detailing spray.

First of all, its not necessary to clay a new paint job (I have done 3 brand new car details and have never found any contamination on the paint) but it is recommended. You never know if your car does have surface contamination, and even though I have had good luck, doesn't mean you will.

Second of all, if you decide to hold off on the claying, and just want to go to applying the NXT sealent, you should be okay. The reason I say this, is I know Mopar used to use Meguiars' formulated products (I believe they still do) so its a good chance that its a Meguiars' product on the Mopar right now.

Thirdly, when you do deciede to "detail" it, I would use DC2 Pure Polish before applying the wax. NTX is heavy in oils and does a very good job of adding gloss, so you may not see much of a difference, but it certaintly wouldn't hurt. I personally would replace NXT with M21, but thats another can of worms. However, on my wifes Sonata, 2 coats of M21 followed by a topper of NXT makes her paint WET (not to mention it lasts longer), so that might be an opition you might want to consider in the future. I have actually been stopped 4 or 5 times and been told that is best white color they have ever seen (though I think they are referring to the high reflection and wet look that I have been able to produce via the 21+NTX combo).

Also, I would highly recommend (above all other NXT products) the glass cleaner. If you go to Autopia.org and click on thier review section, you will see that NXT Glass Cleaner is literally a giant step above anything else on the market. If I could only use one Meg's prodcut, this would be it. It quickly and efficently cuts grease, removes dirt, and DOESN'T STREAK. AT ALL!!! Its seriously Megs' best product, and professional detailers all over the globe are singing the praises of it. With a Waffle Weave Microfiber and NXT Glass Cleaner, you could finish all those windows on the car in a matter of minutes.

Thanks for the tips. What is M21? I'm not up on the Meguiar's Inside Lingo. :P

I picked up some Gold Class and DC#2 today, at the recommendation of others. I'm not going to clay it.
