  • Some repainting, any detailer I can use?

I recently crashed my black Altima SE-R and had the front bumper replaced, the bottom panels of the right doors repainted, all four of the plastic mudflaps replaced and painted, and the side sills repainted.

There are large areas of my car that have not been repainted, and the car looks spectacular, but I'm having withdrawl issues due to not being able to NXT for 90 days!

I have PPG paint, and was told to avoid all waxing and anything containing Silicone for 90 days.

Is there any meguiars detailer product I can use on the remaining areas that won't overspray and cause me problems? I also read not to do any dry detailing for 30 days minimum.

Any expert knowledge is appreciated. I've done a lot of searching and haven't found any definitive answers or conclusive thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Scott

I am unsure of any Meguairs products but I worked at a collision center and 3m products were the products of choice as they are more oriented to the body shops where as Meguiars is more toward detaillers.

Not true, Meguiar's primary business was body shops and car manufacturer's paint lines for more than half a century before they started the consumer line and is still so today. The Detailer line came after that. (Of course pro detailers did utilize the body shop products before there was a dedicated Detailer line.)

#34 Final Inspection is the body shop specific QD. Any of the Mirror Glaze line (tan bottles, prominent numbers) polishes and cleaner/polishes are safe for use on fresh paint.

Read this as it will give you all the background information you need,

And then you can use any of our pure polishes in both the Consumer Line and a few of our cleaner/polishes in our Professional Line. Some of our cleaner/polishes in our Professional Line are so gentle that as long as you apply them gently they will work fine.

Here are the polishes you have to choose from

        Pure Polishes
Deep Crystal Polish <-- Easiest to find and use
        #7 Show Car Glaze
        #3 Machine Glaze
        #5 New Car Glaze
        #81 Hand Polish

        Light Cleaner/Polishes
        #9 Swirl Remover 2.0
        #82 Swirl Free Polish
#80 Speed Glaze - contains a synthetic paintable polymer that offers some protection

        Hope this helps...

Can't resist a plug for my favorite product for fresh repaints: Meguiar's #5 New Car Glaze. I've been using this stuff for 30 years and IMO it's possibly the most user-friendly product there is- literally mistake-proof as best I can tell and as easy to use as anything I've ever tried. Which can be important as you need to reapply such stuff after every wash.

Thanks for the replies everyone these were very useful posts... unfortunately over at the altimas.net forum things have really gone down hill (or maybe the average age has dropped about 15 years...)

            Thanks again,

            Scott
