This weekend I intend to detail our 6-month old Toyota Yaris. Please critique the procedure that I intend to do:
1. Wash with car shampoo (Not Meguiar's I know. But I'm just finishing it up before getting a Meguiar's brand).
2. Prep the car with QD. Claying is not needed as the surface is still smooth.
3. Polish with ColorX.
4. Wax 1st coat with NXT Gen Tech Wax/GC Liquid Wax.
5. Wax 2nd coat with NXT Gen Tech Wax/GC Liquid Wax.
6. And lastly, use QID for the interior bits.
I intend to do step 3 as I have found some hairline scratches here and there on the paintwork.
Question 1: Is ColorX safe to use on clear coat? Will I get the same results with using ColorX on a car without clear coat as on one that has? If not safe on clear coat, which product will you recommend that I use for polishing (and removing hairline scratches) on a clear coat finish?
I have read somewhere here that 2 coats of wax is needed for ultimate results, thus steps 4 and 5.
Question 2: Is it really necessary, or will one coat suffice with using either product? Can I mix and match, meaning: use NXT Gen on 1st coat and GC on 2nd coat as I have both products already?
All of these will be done using good ole elbow grease as the DA G100 is not available in Australia. Though I have found a random orbital car polisher without speed setting (max rpms I think is 4000-6000), is this a safe alternative to use? I have also found some random orbital sander-polishers with speed settings but these are much more expensive than the car polisher.
Question 3: What range of rpms should I look in a random orbital polisher? So that I can tell if a product is ineffective (too slow) or if it will 'burn' my paint (too fast).
Thank you very much for your advice, and I promise I'll post pics later.
