#9 vs DC1?

    #9 vs DC1?

    I used (among other things) #1 medium-cut cleaner on my truck, and am going to follow up with #9. Is #9 the professional line product that is similar to DC1, or do I still need a "cleaner"?

    Also, should I still clay my truck before polishing and waxing? I assume that the abrasion by the #1 removed any surface contaminants, but being fairly new I thought I'd get some other opinions.

    Are you working by hand, rotary, other machine?

    #9 is probably the mildest cleaner in the professional line, or at least tied for it. The big thing is what is your paint like after using the #1? Does it seem like there is much marring, only a little, none? #9 will be good for light to no marring.

    You could go right from #1 to polish and wax, but #9 would probably refine the surface a bit more, to get you a better look.

    Also, #1 is a paint cleaner. #9 is a cleaner/polish, so it is up to you if you follow the #9 with a pure polish, or just go right to waxing.

    In theory, you should clay before using the paint cleaners, but it is never too late. If a contaminant is very strongly bonded to the surface, the pad you are using can just jump right over it, without ever removing it. And if the contaminant is bonded loosely, it could come off and be dragged around on your paint by the pad. That is whay you would clay first usualy.

      How did you apply the #1?

      What kind of paint are your working on? Single-Stage or a Basecoat/Clearcoat finish?

      M01 should only be applied using a rotary buffer like Murr1525 said.

      M09 is a very gentle cleaner/polish for removing light swirls and best results from this product in most cases comes when it's applied using a rotary buffer.

      M09 and DC1 are different types of products but you will probably see the same types of results depending on what your working on and how your applying the products.
